TweetPROVIDENCE, R.I. - A Rhode Island man is headed to federal prison to serve nearly three years for his role in a scheme to import steroids and prescription drugs from Israel and resell them in the U.S.
Edmond Paolucci was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Providence to 33 months behind bars. He pleaded guilty to drug and money laundering charges last year.
Authorities say the 54-year-old Coventry resident admitted importing misbranded and in some cases illegal drugs from Israel, Turkey and Bulgaria and then repackaging them for online sale in the U.S.
Authorities say Paolucci returned a share of the profits to Israel, where they say the drug distribution ring was based.
A second man, 44-year-old Patrick Cunningham of Cranston, pleaded guilty last month to participating in the scheme.
