I haven't lifted in over 2 months. I have been out for lower back surgery. I went to the gym yesterday and just worked on cardio which is seriously lacking from just watching tv for 2 months.

I want to get back to lifting so how would I add this back into my routine? Actually I am a little frightened cause I don't want to re-injure myself.

      Any and all advice welcome

actually, I would get the advice of a GOOD sports doctor.

one who does nothing BUT work atheletes back into their routines.

Fuzo has come back from many surgeries only to be even better. He always modified his workouts, greatly, and started out slow and a lower weightload. He found it helpful to use more machines than free weights when he was getting back into it.

I've been lucky, injury wise, but the few times I have sustained one, I made sure it was healed and then did like fuzo. but I always gave the injury excessive time to heal, because so many of the body parts are prone to reinjury once you damage them.

      especially back, knees and biceps.

What did your doctor advise you?

Like everyone is saying slow go. For now get the single body part training out of your head. Meaning leg day, back day, shoulder day. I think simple circuit training half the body 3or 4 times a week. Machines are great for this. The body will be locked into a position as you use the machine. Then venture out to the free weight in combination with machines.

I did cardio again today and did machines. I concentrated on form instead of actual weight. It felt great and soon I will get to where I need to be.

Definitely have a chat with the doc and get set up on some sort of PT...surprised they didn't do that after back surgery. Make sure you stay within your restrictions if you have them. The back is not something to mess around with.
