TweetDamn...kinda figured it would be hard to watch. James Franco isn't much of an actor (for me), what a shame, kids wanted to see it
TweetI've snuck alcohol into movies but never had to leave a movie and get two shots of Jim Beam to my soda cause it was that boring and that bad! Somehow had to get through it for the kids. Holly cow what a piss poor attempt at the 1939 classic.
I love movies and rarely criticizes movies like this. Hollywood is seriously putting out some crap!

PAIN DON'T HURT
TweetThat is disappointing as, let alone the kids, I wanted to see this remake.
TweetAt what point did you leave/ it started out slow but it did get good. WE all liked it

TweetDon get me wrong kids liked it but its no wizard of oz of 1939 fame. It's all done on green screen, piss pour acting, etc.
I left about 45 min into it. We were at a theatre that has a bar so I grabbed two shots and a soda and only missed 5 minutes.
Some movies should just never be redone. This is one of them.
TweetIt wasn't meant to be a remake. It was a 'prequal'. Now after this, I can see them doing a remake.

TweetThat's just it, it's Hollywood new get out of jail free card. Make a movie on a Preexisting genre with built in fans, tweak the story slightly, call it a prequel. When it fails just blame it on the audience because they didn't understand the directorial brilliance.
BS...this movie failed big time. It ended fine and kids that don't know better wont care. If you grew up knowing The real movie this modern version is boring, horrible affects, worse acting, I can keep going...
Tweetthey seem to do so many 'prequels' to movies now. i always found that kind of dumb. next they will come out with a twilight prequel, now i would like that

TweetThe James Franco-led "Oz" brought in $24.1 million, a total which for a weekend gross in the range of $69 to $74 million, with some sources expecting totals to reach $80

Tweetit looks horrible, whats her name is hot tho
I never meant to be better than anyone, I was just born that way. Its hard being a god amongst peasants!
TweetI agree 6p6. The movie wasn't that good. I tried to like it but couldn't convince myself in the end. The worst character in it was the wicked witch portrayed by Mila Kunis. She was terrible! What a horrible choice for that character. However, the other two witches were good and I felt Franco did a pretty good job.
Hollywood has lost a lot of their talent of creativity. It seems they just look for the easy buck to make and pass on the quality. But they get away from it as long as we keep buying tickets.

TweetI agree with the others about too many trying to re-make old movie successes and unfortunately they rarely even compare to the originals.
Also, today they focus so much on the "SHOCK" factor with great special effects and showing you very graphic details and gory scenes at the sacrifice for a eery or scary story. How many movies do you watch now and have the hair on the back of your neck standing up? Years ago they didnt show half the stuff they do in movies today nor did they have any where near the computer generated images and effects but you had to use your imagination and created your own scare and were on the edge as to whats coming next. Now many times whats coming next is very predictable and while they do have awesome special effects,it still takes away from the fear of old.
I love the new age of computers and the incredible special effects in movies now but if they could only have that and still focus on a great story that keeps you glued to the screen it would be much much better.
One more thing,is anyone else now very tired wiith the stupid endings of movies now??? I say "endings" but thats only for lack of a better word at this time. The movies finish now but dont end!! The movie producers have been on a kick the past several yrs with stupid dumb ass endings that leave you saying..."THAT WAS IT"?????????????? or ..."WHAT A DUMB ASS ENDING"!!!!!!
Not sure if they all do this as a set up for a potential next one but I miss the days when a movie ended and that was it! The hero saves the day,the bad guy dies or wins of the couple falls in love and gets married!! WHATEVER,as long as it ends.LMAO
Tweeti watched this last night, ofc im a cheapo i downloaded a screener, the kids liked it but i really didnt like it that much but i have to say my favorite character was the little flying monkey lol
