Tasers Discussion. Are they worth having? Anyone been tased?

TweetI know a girl who lives in Denver and is scared to go anywhere since a girl was murdered in the parking garage of her apartment 2 weeks ago.
She doesnt like guns, so I told her maybe she should get a taser. I know there are some taser experts on here. Been tased? I can see thatthey would be limited if youre under attack by more than one person

Have had brass knuckles in the past, but yes, they are hard to hide, you cant carry them around with you...this key chain would probably not be considered brass knuckles..just say its a bulldog head with pointy ears LOL...Looks like that bulldog would **** someone up. But what is its stopping power if you are a female and have a crazed attacker?
Real brass knuckles are really scary. They are heavy and pointy and would kill a person with one punch. They sell them at gun shows as paper weights for $8. You only use them if your life is threatened. Not for bar fights..LOL

Tweeta taser is great, i have been clip tased but never shot with the barbs. it hurts like hell but if the attacker is wearing a puffy jacket or a carhart style or very loose baggy clothes it does not always get the barbs to flesh.

also cheap ones just dont apply enough volts. when i worked for the PD they showed us some that they confiscated from a dope house. we made a game of tagging each other in the ass............taser tag with the prongs. (most do not have to have the spool discharged to use as a touch stungun.

but if i walked up on some one and they pulled one out and i heard it arching i would leave.

Ive been tased till I pissed myself.Didnt even put the taser on me,put it on the chair I was in and electric chaired my ass.....only time in my life anyone has been able to shut me up....they are no joke.

Tweetok, i have attended the individual non lethal weapons instructor course for the dod as well as some piggy back training with swat units. here is the deal:

the barbs dont have to pierce your skin to render a shock. they just need to have both connect at different points
the initial taze last for 5 whole seconds and is designed for you to be able to get away and or subdue the individual
tazers are far more effective against more heavily muscled individuals because it causes an involuntary contraction of all the bodies muscles.

now the down sides:
it is not hard to sweep the probes away from you in between shocks
just like pepper spray it isnt always effective on all people. especially dopers and crazies
it is a one shot deal unless you can sweep the catridge quickly and apply the tazer to the individual after you miss.

having ridden the lightning myself a time or two and being the stupid one to volunteer to get shot by the thing i will tell you that it sucks. it only sucks for those 5 seconds though and you are fully aware and ready to stomp ass when it's over.
pepper spray to me is far more effective. it does have drawbacks but it is damn hard to mess someone up when you are blind, your face is on fire, and you cant breath.

for those wandering i am not in le. i was in a special job in the military that involved all kinds of cool training and ops with special units from pd's

TweetWhat about a hand to hand self defence class ? Im not talking oriental ballet (respectively), but maby something like Krav Maga. I myself have been involved in Kempo for seven years so far and I feel confidant I can defend myself in most of any situation. But it takes a lotta commitment and time to perfect is why I suggested something in the ways of an easy to pick up (and lethal) from of street self defence. Most ass#ole thugs will be the ones to pull a blade or a gun cause the're cowards and cant fight anyway.
