What motivates you to keep training? What is that keeps you driving the weights? Especially in the face of adversity.

I understand you may have a goal, like being on stage or you train for another sport. But I want to know what it is that you find deep within yourself to continue to struggle and push yourself further.

I know I haven't been around here much in some time. Some of you may remember but for those who don't know, I was diagnosed with MS over 3 years ago. I had been an amateur strongman competitor for many years before and have been weight training for over 20 years. But slowly over the past few years I've lost my drive. It's more of a mental problem, not physical. I've been trying to find that spark within once again but seem to be coming up emptyhanded.

So guys and ladies both, I'd like to hear thoughts and input on what makes you keep going. This isn't a post to ask for anyone's pity so save that shit for some one who really deserves it. The first one who says anything about feeling sorry will get their ass kicked!

      What makes you push?

Hey AV. What drives me is that one day out of one month or three month. Or however long it takes to break another PR. Why don't you try and set some short term goals in the gym. Smash those goals and set some higher goals. Then smash them. As you start to break those PR's you will be a machine again and wont even realize it. Maybe start a log and share your experience with us and let us help you on your way. Good luck bro.

I just think about how a short but intense workout can change your brain chemistry instantly. If your drive isnt there right now, then just commit to 5 to 15 minutes of super high intensity, the rest of your day you will feel totally different. Theres a lot that drives me, but that simple fact of how immensely mind altering it is, thats my biggest driver right now. If I miss workouts, I can absolutely feel a big difference in how good I feel. I am going through a recent grief crisis and working out has been the best therapy by far. No drug can do for me what working out does for me...
I could go on and talk about the sense of self mastery, victory over yourself, etc etc etc also

I find that I'm always thinking of the final result...been going almost 2 years to the gym with little weight loss but have loss inches. I know I'm getting rid of unnecessary stress when I work out, I know that I'm getting stronger, looking better, feeling better. Now I just need that drive to sell out totally and be committed to better eating habits and supplements to look like and be where I want to be. <3

I use to be over 250+ pounds. I started going to the gym with light cardio and started to see myself loose weight. Then I moved on to light weights. Got bored with that and my ex suggested I try either bodybuilding or power lifting. I can't diet to save my life so I decided to go into power lifting. Saw that I was gaining muscle and being fit . Loved it. Every time I saw progress in the mirror it motivated me to workout harder and hit those weights like there was no tomorrow. ~SiGhZ~... I miss those days.

The fear of taking too much time off and never getting back in the gym. The fear of losing my lean
Mass going into my later years. I have trained for 20 years. Did not start till I was 31. So very late
      To get into the game,

I'm the only guy at an all women gym. They complained at first so now I wear warm up suits and a wig. Don't bother with the lip stick though. Can't really find a shade Im happy with.

Seriously, though. I honestly don't need motivation. It's what I do...my passion. The gym is the only place I am truly at piece with. Stoned out of my mind, nine inch nails at 96 decibels...and just me and the weights.

If I had a motivation, it would be the god awful guy knot I get if i miss a day. And I so hate that feeling.

Ok, gotta restate that. Me, nine inch nails, the weights.....and the big girls.

Years ago, I gave up on the gyms in Dallas at prime time, so now I get there around 10:30 and 11:00.

By that time, the gym is completely vacant - the size of a wal-mart, and all those beautiful machines and uninhabited free weight area.

And the big girls. The know what time the gym empties out and thats when they come. Occupying every cardio machine there is.

Texson and the big texan gals.

I always felt sorry for them, though because I know why they spend the nights with me - too ashamed and embarrassed by all their spandex clad counterparts during prime time.

Thats why baby made me laugh when she said 'fat bottom girls' was my theme song.

But you know, I use to notice them watching me work out and I always imagined them thinking, "yeah...another 100 lbs. and your muscular butt is mine, dude. All mine.".

So maybe MY motivation for being there was to motivated that fat girls.

And if that's the case...so be it.

      Texson, at your service.
