TweetThey are two completely different compounds. Glucophage doesn’t mimic insulin, it upgrades the insulin receptors if you are type-2 resistant. Primarily Metformin decreases sugar production in the body to makes insulin work better and by doing that enhances insulin sensitivity. Metformin does not cause your body to produce more insulin and doesn't usually cause weight gain.
It doesn't work anything like insulin - the only use for a bodybuilder I could think of is to use it while coming off a insulin cycle to enhance the lost sensitivity from the exogenous supply. Other than that side effects include: Belly pain, cramps, gas, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of hunger. Not things you would like to experience when trying to put down well over 4000cals a day.
