I think this will end up hurting McCain's chances of being president. Especially if this $850b barely does anything.

      I think you're right. Unfortunately!

The Senators who voted NO are probably the 1/3 that are up for reelection. No one wants their name tied to this bill especially if it doesn't work.

That's exactly what the free market economist have been saying. this is not a cash issue it is a trust issue and the credit market will not react to the bailout. We will be in the same ship with higher inflation and higher debt.

I'm glad McCain is a conservative and standing up for limited government!! :/

Global warming and making insurance companies cover mental health are a couple of earmark items that have gotten into the bill. More reasons to vote against it.

      it's all about trust

the have's of money, will not let the have not's have a whiff of it, it's all about credit contraction

i ran some numbers the other night

average person uses 20 gallons of gas a week, at 1.5 that's 30 bucks, at 4 bucks that is 80, fifty more a week, or twoo hundred a month

      a man and wife, 400
      5k a year

if they make 60k, they take home 50

so that 5k kills em, and then u add in cost of food and utilities

imho, they ran as long and as hard as they could and then they could run no longer, 150 a barrell oil, just basically like hitting a brick wall

this is going to take a while too unwinde the excess

it's all tied together, but the "no money down", "intrest only" and the rest of the creative mortgages that let people bite off WAY more than they can chew, didnt help and shouldnt have been.
and saying "those people shouldnt have baught more home than they could afford" aint really an answer or a reality....i know ALOT of guys that were shaky, got subprime loans, was doing fine, until people decided to quit buying shyt!! they got laid off.
