      Thought I would let you know the results of adding Tabata to my training for endurance athletes. (not that I am a real athlete)

      I have been doing Tabata 3X a week for a few months without fail (i have done it off and on for years but never as a routine). at 45 i have always had problems keeping up with the young guys in the ring or on the mat due to my cardio failing.

      Last tuesday I sparred 10 rounds back to back with a one minute rest between each. hands were heavy at the end but i could have gone 2-3 more.



      Give it a try. just do not over do it. 3X a week is perfect. I use the recumbent bike 1 time a week at the gym. at the camp i do tabata punching on the wall bag. and then I have a campmate hold thai pads for me and I do knees. I am at 10 intervals.

      After doing this regimen i recover very quickly after max exertion. no more huffing and puffing for 2 minutes after. 30-45 seconds my heart rate has come down and my breathing has become regular. (also I have gained 10# of muscle over the last year which normally hurts cardio)

      Great to hear thanks for sharing.

      Ourdaughter trains with her gymnastics team 11 hours a week. Classe are 3 and a half hours each. the last 1/2 hour of class is conditioning and this past week they have thrown in Tabata training for that half hour. Now these are 10 year old girls and this is some intense training especially after training for 3 hours. these girls are exhausted and I am just watching them,lol. I think I am going to ask if I can jump in for that 1/2 hour.

      My daughter gets through it and I tell you "thats awesome" " doesnt it feel great",lol. So great to see kids working hard and they cant complain about it to the coahes or they will end up with more to do. I have always know about Tabata but it has sparked my interest agin when the kids started doing this and now with your post...I am even more intersted. Seeing that you are 45 and doing it inspite of age and injuries, I am 46 and now am even more motivated to try!
