  • Home Gyms: Who has them, uses them, experience with them?

Alright here we go. First of this is not for me ha ha! This is for my wife. She works very long hours, and the thought of going to the gym after work doesn't sit well with her. At our old place, I put together a decent set up with free weights buying used equipment of Craigslist. But this time around I'm thinking a home gym set up for my wife would be perfect. We are military, so i think it'll be nice to have go where we go for her.

I found this one on Craigslist:
Inspire Fitness M4 Presentation - Fred - YouTube

    The ultimate hybrid home gym

The M4 home gym is completely iso-lateral giving the user greater freedom of movement. Each side of one’s body is responsible for exactly 50% of the load, which in turn improves muscle balance and coordination as well as develops the user’s core stabilizer muscles in the mid-section. This gym is loaded with special features such as a lat tower that splits for a cable crossover exercise as well as a bench that rolls to the side to make the high pulley more accessible. The M4 also comes standard with a dual adjustable pulley column for important exercises like bicep curl and tricep extension. This pulley column has been designed to offer a quarter pulling ratio, so that each 10 lb. weight plate offers 2.5 lbs of resistance. These smaller increments are important for smaller muscle groups. Undoubtedly the most well equipped home gym on the market today. Fully capable of turning any body into a hard body.

Frame: Heavy-duty 2"x4" oval and 3" round 11 gauge tubular steel.

Powder Coated Finish: The Electrostatic Powder Coat offers a durable, maintenance free finish.

Pivot Points: The bench press pivot points have 1-1/2" Precision Steel Ball Bearings. All other parts pivot on Oil Impregnated Brass Bushings to ensure a smooth and fluid motion with No Maintenance.

Orthopedic Seats and Canvas Weight Stack Shroud: The Color Coordinated Orthopedic Seat Pads offer Adjustable Support for Ultimate Body Comfort. The Weight Stack Shroud is constructed of a Heavy-Duty Canvas. There are four standard color choices in the Orthopedic Seat Pads and Canvas Weight Stack Shrouds to match the decor of your home! The color choices are Black, Tan, Burgundy, and Navy. Custom Canvas Weight Stack Shroud Available!

Weight Stack: 215 LB. Commercial Weight Stack with Solid Guide Rods and Center Drilled Weights.

Accessories: Strap Handles with revolving grips and Ankle Strap.

Options Available: Leg Press and Abdominal Bar.

    Dimensions: M4 Footprint: Length 96" x Width 48" x Height 83.5"
    M4 Footprint with optional Leg Press: Length 100" x Width 76" x Height 83.5"

Warranty Inspire (Health In Motion LLC.) Multi-Gyms have a (Residential) Lifetime Limited Warranty and a 10 year Light-Commercial Warranty.

Other then that there are the usual Bowflex varieties, and other things that are really old. Any thoughts are very much appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Home Gyms: Who has them, uses them, experience with them?

It comes with a leg press attachment, but I can't find any videos of that being done with the machine. I can see pictures of it, but I'd like to see a video of it you know. Wife is pretty happy right now about it. But if she can't do squats or any compound movement for the legs with it, I might shy away from it.

Right now from looking around on CL I found the exact set up we had at our old place with a seated leg curl/leg extension machine made by Tuff Stuff, a squat rack w/ lat pulldown and lower cable pulley made by Gold's Gym + 500lbs of Olympic weights and bar for $750. Problem is wife don't want free weights this time. If I can find 1 or maybe even 2 more machines to add to it I just might do the free weights instead lol.

Make that $1100 asking price of all the used machines. Just found a leg press/hack squat machine made by Tuff Stuff for $350.

So for $1100 asking price on all equipment:

Tuff Stuff Leg Press/Hack Squat Machine
Tuff Stuff Seated Leg Extension/Leg Curl Machine
Gold's Gym Squat Rack w/ Upper and Lower Cable pulleys + 500lb's of Olympic Weights and Adjustable Bench

The home gym she is asking for $2500.

Re: Home Gyms: Who has them, uses them, experience with them?

I build my body almost 100% in my home gym. I never stepped foot into a commercial gym till I was 36 or 37. Still to this day I train 4 days at home and 1 day in a commercial gym. I live in the country. I always felt the time it took to drive to the gym and home I could be done and already home. Each year instead of buying a member ship somewhere I purchase a pcs of equipment. Either new or used. I have a great set up. Any of you could get a good workout in my gym. Only thing is there are no fitness chics running around.

Maybe Im different then the average home training guy. Many of you say you can't get motivated at home. When I go to the commercial gym I really find it very distracting. People wanting to talk and visit etc. You know the stuff "when your next show? What you getting ready for? bla bla None of that at home. Just focus on one body part and be done. 12 steps up and I'm home.

Here is my little private setup at the House. It's my Iron Den & gives me a place to get away from everyone & crank up the tunes. There is more equipment in here but I figured I snap a shot from this angle.
I have a Squat Rack, Pec Deck, Olympic Bench, Dumbbells from 10 to 100 lbs in pairs, Leg Press Sled that I can change around & do hack Squats, Smith Rack, Dips Stand, elliptical trainer, treadmill, and a spinning bike. Laying Machine Hamstring Curls, Seated machine leg kickouts, Tons of Plates.... The floor is padded. Anyway.... I love my setup.
