In my opinion, there are absolute rights and wrongs in our lives. We all must choose right vs wrong. There are no gray areas when you look through God's word at an issue.

      You said it!

You know, I saw a pole that said 85% of high school students think it's ok to tell a lie if no one gets hurt. (That's assuming the other 15% weren't lying) How sad is that?

There are absolutes in issues of morality, faith and truth. A great deal of the rest is relative.

taking a human life. its wrong for me or you to take someones life, right? but yet excusable murders happen everyday. i won't say the death penalty cause thats too debatable. but in war, on the streets when a cop kills a criminal cause he is waving a gun. a man protecting his family from someone breaking into his house. a woman fighting off someone who is harming her or trying to rape her. is it horrible these people were put in those situations, YES. but sometimes it becomes a necessary evil. do you agree?

Yes. I believe that we are obligated to protect ourselves and others within reason.

Oh, hell yea I agree with the right to defend your person and/or your family. "Thou shall not murder" is just that, don't murder. It doesn't say thou shall not defend one's life when it is about to be taken. That's self defense. The morality of murder and self defense are two totally different things. Is it morally right to take life, no. Is it morally right to preserve your own life when threatened, yes. IMO

ok i should not have used the word murder. the act of taking someones life is not always wrong is my point. therefore not everything is either right or wrong. this is an example of a grey area. and its a big example

      Murder--wrong..sinful.
Defending yourself or your family--morally right.

this is not a gray area.

Murder occurs because of sin. murders happen because people want (lust or covet or hate) something..money, sex, power, another person....sin, or a worldly gain is realized by the act. That is the essence of sin. Sin is committing an act for worldly or earthly gain. We are called to put aside worldly gains for the greater benefit of serving God.

Defending yourself is just that....you are not sinning. You do not hate the person you defend against, you are not lusting or coveting something they have, or you can achieve by killing them. There is no worldy gain by killing them.

this is an area that people confuse alot. Once again, look through the Word at what the topic is and it is clear.

There is murder and there is killing. The two are different although they have the same result. I came across an interesting verse today that clearly supports the death penalty though:
      Genesis 9:6
      "Whoever sheds man's blood,
By man his blood shall be shed,
For in the image of God
      He Made man."
God said this to Noah after the flood. Pretty interesting don't you think? The Bible clearly gives the right and wrong to murder and killing. It is wrong to murder and it is just to kill those that murder. Straight from God. I don't see the grey area here.

I think there are rights and wrongs, but we personally create gray areas because we are afraid of "hurting someone's feelings" or "not being accepted" or we make excuses for not being truthful...etc.

when you seperate taking someones life into murder or self defense, yes then there is no grey area. i'm using just the act of taking someones life, where you guys are taking it a step furthur and breaking it down to 2 ways. i see what you mean
