I am a father of a 18 week old boy.

So you guys with kids (and you guys without) what is the most important thing you want to teach your kid. And/or what is the most important thing you don't want to teach your kid.

if its a boy teach him how to be a gentlemen and if its a girl educate her, but things I wouldnt show them is be drinking in front of them and getting wasted. I wouldnt want them to do that in a early age.

      RESPECT

self confidence, speak the truth, and always listen...those are some of the best one's I've learned in life from my Dad who past away 3 years ago....I was always Daddy little boy and he always taught me that if you have no dignity and respect, then you have nothing.

To look out for, serve, and be compasionate toward their fellow men. Always.
"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination
alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'press on' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race."

its disipline brother, i have been there and done that. its a wonderful thing till they hit 3-4 and decide they need to push you to your limits on EVERY THING. disipline will be an integral part of every other aspect of becoming a good respectful productive member of society.

I'm not a guy, but taking the time to do proper disciplining is a true sign of love.
It's staying one step ahead of them to intercept incorrect behavior before it happens to educate them, rather than scolding them for doing something any kid would do if given the chance.
If you keep that in mind, your child won't have the self esteem problems that most have from their parents disciplining after the fact from an early age.
They turn out to have a higher level of self respect & confidence in themselves.

      Thanks for the reply's
My son has already started teething - so he has been pretty cranky lately. I don't see how people have more than one (if you do, my hats off to you). So this is going to be my only one, so I'm trying to learn as much as possible.
