Tweetim sitting in the boat, kicked back, waiting on the fish to bite. i was on the savannah river . very unspoiled, all govt owned , no houses , lots of nature. its nothing to be fishing and see a deer walk down the hill through the trees down to the water and drink, if your in the river thier not scared so they dont run away.
anyway, across the top of the trees a big ass bald eagle swoops down and skims the top of the water. he missed it the first time so he circled a few times, then swooped down again and grabbed a good size hybrid right out of the rivers surface.
man that was awesome, ive never encountered a bald eagle in the wild, they are huge, and gracefull, an awesome sight.

TweetThat reminds me of a time I went kayaking in the Prince William Sound in Alaska for a month. We were about 20 days into it, paddling along some pristine channels between islands, all relatively close. Overhead were two bald eagles locked in the air - fighting or mating ritual type thing. All of a sudden, they fell like stones into the sound. One flew away, the other killed either by the fall, or the winner. Strangest thing, paddling right next to a floating dead bald eagle. Almost surreal.

TweetWhen you see things like this in nature, it can really make you appreciate that there might be a God or something after all. It never fails to make me stop and think how lucky I am to see such beautiful things. Went to Yosemite 2 years ago - some things can't be put into words.

They're pretty cool. There's a kingfisher that lives in or near the river gully near my cabin.

That thing is just amazeing! It's got to have at least a 6' wingspan. You can hear the whoosh..whoosh..whoosh sound as he flys away. I think he likes fishing in the river there.

Damn thing scares me all the time! Have to walk by this gully to get to the cabin. I swear when he takes off, his wings nearly touch each side of the gully.

We also have a few loons up at the lake. They have the coolest call of all birds IMO.. so haunting and lonely sounding...

TweetThere are a lot of bald eagles where I am at during the winter. Once the winter is over they head back north.

Loons do have a really cool call. I was fishing in Crane Lake Minnesota a few years ago and heard them up there.

Yeah.. there's nothing like sitting out on a super calm lake, in your boat, with nothing to disturb you except the sound of your reel and the call of the loon. Especially at sundown! Their calls literally send a shiver down my back.
