Myostatin propeptide (which binds myostatin) and myostatin polyclonal/ monoclonal antibodies are readily available from multiple genuine research laboratories, but at great expense.
One person in the thread mentions using it with minimal effects for around $1700 spent. The thread has lots of great references and information on what actually works, including information on follistatin, which blocks myostatin activity (and a possible oral follistatin supplement, which may or may not be genuine).
Definitely a lot of things to think about. REAL myostatin blockers will soon be readily available (unlike that seaweed crap). Whether or not they are effective is yet to be seen.

Purified Follistatin (for research purposes) is even more expensive than myostatin propeptide. The nutritional supplement mentioned in the thread, folstaxan, is a purified extract of fertile egg yolks, which are high in follistatin. As this supplement is new there is little evidence that oral follistatin in this form will effect muscle growth. Perhaps eating heaps of raw fertilized egg yolks would give some effect (if you didn't die of a heart attack first).
Interesting to note than increasing nitric oxide levels (NO) decreases myostatin levels by inducing the expression of follistatin. I guess those NO increasing supplements already on the market have some real validity in increasing muscle mass.
Decorin, a small leucine-rich proteoglycan can prevent fibrous scar formation and improve muscle healing after injury, due to the up-regulation of follistatin.
Flex Wheeler apparently has a rare mutation in the myostatin gene, giving him more muscle fibres than most normal people. Pity this didn't help him win the olympia.

Trichostatin A (TSA). Another substance that increases follistatin levels. Like the other myostatin blockers, very expensive!
Sodium butyrate is also mentioned as a cheaper alternative with similar effects, although the higher dosages required may have some unpleasant side effects (like smelling of rancid butter).

Valproic acid, an anticonvulsive and mood-stabilizing drug is also a histone deacetylase inhibitor which blocks adipogenesis. Unfortunately it seems to have a whole lot of unwanted side effects which would probably preclude it's use as a muscle-building agent.

Deacetylase inhibitors increase muscle cell size and increased production of follistatin and enhance regeneration following muscle injury. This would mean better recovery from intense training.

TweetSODIUM BUTYRATE INFORMATION
From my searching I have found that butyrate can be taken orally with no blatant risks, apart from perhaps bad taste and odor. Butyrate is actually formed naturally in the body by bacteria acting on dietary fibre.

EFFECTIVE DOSAGE
From what I've researched, the effective oral dose of butyrate salts (although not necessarily for sodium butyrate) is 0.5 to 10g per day, divided into four doses to maintain a serum butyrate concentration of between 10 and 200 mM. The dose reccomended come from this patent application...

and is meant for cystic fibrosis, cancer and other diseases which are known to be treatable with butyrate.

SAFETY
Butyrate is well tolerated in mammals and has been used at dosages of up to 2000mg/ kg bodyweight (which is definitely too much). Butyrate is thought to have neuroprotective and anti-cancer properties.

COST
I am waiting for a quote from the lab I contacted, but cost should be about $2/ gram. I suspect it would be easier to find and cheaper in a big country like America. A dosage of 1g/ day would be affordable, although still not cheap.

TweetThere is a pharm grade drug being used right now to treat MD. However, there is no way to get your hands on it yet. It is the only one that works so far and it's still in the infancy stage of research. It's called MYO-029. Anything other than this drug, IMO, is no better than that crap Biotest put out several years ago. After these studies take place, then we will know if it is possible. If the clinical studies prove to be positive, this thing should find it's way to the black market within a few years. Of course, until after the studies are done, you won't know how it works or if it's life long results. One would think that if you have the muscle you should be able to keep it, right? Not always the case. I know you guys have seen those supper skinny guys that jump on cycles and gain weight only to loose it all. I've known several of them. I think their genetics will never let them get big and stay big. But, someone like me, who holds weight easily (too easily-lol) would probably find great results from it. It's going to be interesting to see how it plays out.
