TweetI worked for a whole year to to change my bench form to bench like this. Best thing I ever did.
TweetHere's Jim Wendler's advice on how to lower the bar with your lats in the bench press for. The purpose in this is more control and power.
"When we say "lower with the lats" it's very hard to describe - you almost hold or "shelf" the bar with your lats as you lower the bar.
How do you do it? I'm going to give you some advice. There is a guy from England name Dhylan Kandasamy. When he isn't busy e-mailing me with shipping quotes, he lifts some of those weights that we've been talking about. Anyway, a couple of months ago he told me that he finally realized what we meant by "lowering with the lats". I asked him how he did it.
He said it took several long years of learning the correct position of the bench press (set up, etc) AND more importantly he religiously did a ton of lat work. And this is what 100% of people miss...
The advice of the century:
You cannot lower a bar with your lats IF YOU DON'T HAVE LATS
So if you want to do this, spend a couple of years of some serious tuggin' and you'll know what I mean. And by a couple, I mean probably 10."

TweetSame here...some times I will purposely bench like a bodybuilder just to hit the peck a little.
