TweetI've taken Kempo and Judo for 8 yrs when I was younger, I like them both..Judo I was able to utilize judo in high school and in college when I wrestled though, it was great....I like the fact of being able to throw someone around of my weight with no problems...Kempo was a full contact art for me, liked that too...It taught me alot of discipline and respect for others...
TweetAn art that's main focus is striking like Muay thai which is far more practical when fighting multiple attackers.

Being defeated is sometimes only a temporary condition. Giving up, makes it permanent......
It takes alot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there's no real security in what's no longer meaningful. There's more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life and in change there is power......

Tweetim not a huge fan of grappling ...
the arguments go something like:
grappler: fights always hit the floor
upright figther: fights always start standing up
plus most of the time when the fight hits the ground its gonna get broken up or ppl will jump in (from experience), so im lookin at mauy thai schools or whatever else show up
Tweeti'm doing kickboxing and muay thai for almost 18 Years now. I have several titles and I'm preparing for another contest right now. I know the power of striking but if you're looking for the most effective "street fighting" style yoy have to adapt a mix. In my opinion you're best off, starting with grappling, i.e. something like gracie jiu jitsu or any other grappling and throwing style. In my work it was the ability to lock someone down more than to punch him down, that made me win confrontations. Muay thai of course is absolutely great in a ring...
Tweetkick boxing is great i think it may be one of the best as well as BJJ a combination of the 2 is even better. striking and submission stand up and ground skills together.
TweetI would say it depends on your physical makeup, things like Tiger Claw Kung Fu are very aggressive, Praying Mantis is very quick movements strung together - something I would not say a large person is well suited for. My opinion some kind of Judo/Aikido, and maybe throw in some Tai Chi for measure. Thats just my opinion though.
I hate to be a ***** but I dont think I could hang with Muay Thai, of course alot of the "real" artists say that American Muay Thai is a bunch of bullshit, but regardless I dont like the idea of killing my nerves. Enduring pain is one thing, kicking your own ass, I give up on the idea of enjoying that.
TweetShihan Pace it is great to know.. its Just real, down and dirty, street techniques that really work. the
self defense system is quick, effective and powerful.ive just started taking shihan pace but i can tell its very affective. it teaches to use every inch of your body to create power, which comes in handy if your in a hold.... i have taken taekwondo for about 8 yrs of my life and i love it,.all the open style tournaments i have been to they always seem to come out on top..

TweetGuys of course knowing a good stand up and ground art is reccomended but I think muay thai, kick boxing, and even boxing is great on the streets...think about it no one fights just one person anymore on the streets atleast here in East LA. I want to end with this is the best fighting style is a fighting style that can change with any situation.

TweetI'm a boxer by trade. Started out learing boxing at a young age when I was homeless at age 14...to make it short I was taken in by my former boxing trainer who let me live there and train for free. Still being active in boxing I was able to wrestle in HS for 4 years, and I started BJJ in the begaining of last year. You can say I am a mixture of boxing, wrestling, and BJJ now.Originally posted by rude
