Spent most of last night trying to build a fire line so that a grass fire doesn't burn down our house/property.
We were woken up by a call from the neighbour at around 3am. Went outside to once again see that sickly glow in the horizon. Shortly after a police car pulled in and told us to evacuate. My grandfather and myseld decided to stay and try to prevent disaster.
The bottom 1/2 of the property is vineyard, but the top 1/2 is just dry field from not being used in years. We turned on some of the water lines and thew the till on the tractor. We tilled like crazy trying to build a fire line. Even broke a couple of blades from going to fast. Then I weedwacked the fenceline (all 2 miles) while getting sprayed by the sprinklers. And we did this in the dark with flashlights.
All this and it wasn't even needed. The fire dept. stopped the fire a few hundred feet from the property line.
So that's 1 fire on saturday night, 3 sunday night, and 3 last night that have been started. Last night's was by far the worst and the only one the threatened any realy damage.
I'm exhausted and extreemly pissed. Someone's getting his jollies by screwing with alot of people's lives and I'm not happy...
