Nothing like a subject to make the stomach queasy. The reason I decided to look into it is because I have what I thought might be one on my right glute.

An abscess is basically an area that someone has injected and bacteria gets into it causing heat, discoloration, pain and fills with maybe a slight bit of puss or a lot. (Told ya it may make your stomach queasy!..lol)

Well I had a slight one yrs ago after a site inj. in the bicep where the doc made a one inch incision and drained what little was in there. In hindsight I should have just waited it out. He stuffed gauze in it and that was that until I pulled out the gauze a couple wks later. It doesnt feel good at all. It doesnt hurt but it sure feels weird!!!!!!!

Now I have what looks like an abscess on my right glute the size of a tennis ball. Thing is I've inserted it with a 22 gg at least 10 times and no puss, but blood and a good bit of it is coming out so Im not sure what to think on this one.

      Anyone else have this happen.....

      gator
Mine doesnt look like any of these but thought Id talk about abscess as at one time or another, long term lifters may experience this:

Don't try to asperate it yourself. Use ice if there is swelling, and try to massage the hell out of it. Try to break up any oil that may be trapped subcutaneously. Beware of sticking it on your own though. If you don't know why, get on youtube and type in Greg Valentino (the dude with the synthol in his biceps).

an abcess is actually not an infection, but your bodys defense to one...it makes an abcess to try and localize the infection, so it doesnt spread..what usually happens with gear..your body thinks the oil is an infection and builds an abcess to localize it.more times than not it isnt rom bacteria.i had that same thing happen to me back in the day using IP gear...couldnt walk...hurt bad....big time swelling, but no abcess...

If you think you have an abcess and it is in its early stages, draining it with a 22 guage or larger pin is the best thing you could do. A doc will look to lance it and you'll have a scar and disproportionate growth in that area. That might not be necessary. After you drain it (and you'll probably need to do it repeatedly) it is essential you immediately go on a high dose course of antibiotics.

Are you guys shooting huge amounts of gear? I used for about 8 years off and on and never once had a problem. I always kept my injections to 2cc max in the glute and 1.5cc in the delts and always rotated sites. Thinking of going back on after a long break - hope I never have this problem! BSH

No. Most of us take proper precautions and never have a problem. I Think the question was asked as if in the event... It could happen even if you went to a doctors office for an injection. If you follow proper procedure the odds are little to none if you are shooting clean gear.
I like to think i'm informed but there are member far more experienced than me so listen to their advice.

I should have gone sooner. Almost3/4 a liter of blood shot from my glute. They dig a hole in me about 10 inches. No working out for 4 wks and it drained for like 6 days.

A friend who decided to inject after a 1 hour cardio workout (how silly, your sweating like a pig and in that sweat is bacteria) and started to develop an abcess. I drained it with a 22 guage pin and gave him 200mg doxycycline a day. I thought he would need medical attention anyway but with 3 drainings of the abcess over 4 days the antibiotics, it cleared it.
