TweetWell kind of. Say you're 165 at 12% bodyfat, that's 19.8lbs. of fat. If you were to gain 20lbs. of solid, lean muscle and not put on any more fat (which would be tough, but this is just an example) you would still have 19.8lbs. of fat at 185, which is 10.7% bodyfat. So you would look more defined. Bowbow and rado are right though, diet and cardio is the better way to go in burning off that fat to give you a more defined look. More muscle on the body does help you lose the fat though, as muscle can help burn fat even at rest.Originally posted by ryan16

Yes. That's why a lot of bodybuilders spend years bulking, and then just a few months cutting. The more muscle mass you can accumulate, the easier cutting will be. Most people aren't willing to be fat for a couple years though. Then again, most people aren't pro bodybuilders.
TweetSo true
Tweetmore muscle means more fat burnning your body can do but without diet you will never get rid of the fat
TweetActually the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn PERIOD. More muscle increases your resting metabolic rate because muscle is metabolically active. For every pound of muscle you build you burn an extra 50 calories a day doing jack shit! Imagine building 10 pounds of muscle. That's 500 calories needed just to sustain it. That's not to mention the extra calories you burn when you actually use the muscle. Calories are burned within the mitochondria, which is located in the muscle cell, more musle more mitochondria and more calories burned overall. Obviously skinny ectomorphs don't count though because even though they have little muscle at all they have a blast furnace metabolism due to a fast thyroid gland, among other genetic factors.
