TweetMY DAUGHTER HAS A PHOBIA ABOUT GERMS...ITS WEIRD HOW IT AFFECTS DIFFERENT FOLKS IN DIFFERENT WAYS
TweetI know what you mean Fuzo. I remember doing things like that as a kid - nothing that interfered with my ability to do other things, but a habit of doing things in a particular way because it felt better to do it that way . . . maybe the product of a stressful early childhood? I don't know.
Tweeti was pretty stressed about weird stuff when i was little and am actually pretty shocked more kids arent to be honest. Like I was really terrified of getting skin cancer when i was like 8 cause adults always told me to put sunscreen on cause you dont want to get cancer. i was also in this enrichment program all through elementary school and we learned about all this crazy stuff the rest of the school didnt get to do. Like we had a 6 week session in second grade on disabilities and we had all these disabled people come in and talk to us. This blind guy told us his story of how he lost his sight when he was little and for a while after that i was real paranoid that i was gonna lose my eyesight.
TweetNO NOT ME BUT I SEE OTHERS DOING SHIT LIKE THAT

TweetI got a thing with double & triple checking to make sure doors are locked.
There's, at least, once a week that I have to run out of some dept-store to beep the horn reassuring myself that the doors are locked on my truck.
I've gotten better though. I used to do it with the house very bad. I would pull back up the driveway 3 & 4 times. Sometimes I would even circle back around, before getting out of the neighborhood, to check again. I don't do that anymore. Not in a couple years.
My doctor told me that what I do is not OCD though. A true OCD disorder is very extreme, and interferes with your everyday life constantly.
I'm a germaphobe as well. Thank goodness for hand-sanitizer, because my hands used to split in different places from washing them so much. And if they split from that, for some reason, the split is so deep and painful. I have to wash my hands with soap and water sometimes, of course. So they split now-and-then. Then when I use that sanitizer, it burns the hell out of the split. So, neosporan w/band-aid heals the split. Full circle.I have clean hands though.
Door handles, shopping carts, gas pumps, etc...Those things are bacteria factories. Wash your hands thoroughly! Think about the people that handled those handles before you, and where their hands have been. eeewww...disgusting!!!
TweetI have a 17 year old niece that was diagnosed when she was about 12. It is very hard on the whole family. She has done inpateient therapy and still goes to therapy. She is also on meds. It is a struggle, but there has been improvement. The best thing loved one's can do is to educate themselves about any disease, addiction, or behavoir problem. This may help to understand and be more supportive.

Tweetyeah see. That's the deal. So many people say, "oh, I have OCD this or that"... Real OCD is extreme. People confuse habitual behavior with OCD. Not the same.
That sucks your neice has that to deal with, along with those in her daily life. That's great that she's improved. Hopefully, a breakthrough med to completely conquer the illness will come along. Relief for her and her family.
