TweetThe Saiga 12 Looks pretty neat.

TweetI have a large handgun for home protection because its easier/smaller to conceal and, depending on the situation, thought is easier to use.
Guess its a matter of preference
They call you paranoid until the worst happens, and in the aftermath they will call you a hero.
TweetI like the Browning semi auto and the Winchester 1187. I have both. I use my Browning for deer hunting and the 1187 for all other things.
TweetI would go with a 12 gauge from a reputable manufacturer. I grew up hunting with a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge for squirrels and it was a very reliable gun. I'd go with a short barrel 12 gauge probably.

Tweetyeah. for HD, the Saiga is a good choice with it's capacity and quick reload ability.(mag swap & bang). If you were facing a gang of assailants, or an alien invasion.lol...the Saiga could take 'em down...make ya have to stop and count afterwards.
A shot gun is the best home defense(HD) weapon imo, and the opinion of countless others.
I just keep my trusty ole Mossberg 500 12ga by the bed. Full of 00buckshot, 3"magnums, so it's like a dble-stack mag of 9mm in each shot. (15 pellets per shot)
Everyone needs a shotgun.
A friend of mine bought a Mossberg Maverick 88 from Wal-Mart for $169, I think it was?..
I wouldn't go throwing down for a Browning A5 just for HD.
TweetJust for the record-- Remington makes the 1187 and the 1100- not Winchester
TweetThe Saige is nice, but if your just looking for home defense, you can pick up a cheap 12ga pump from Academy for around $200.00. I wouldn't spend a bunch on a shotgun that is good for nothing other than home defense. like:
https://www.academy.com/index.php?pag...350-02021-5180
TweetYeah my bad. I wasn't thinking before I typed it out.
TweetFor home protection not hunting. I would get something that is priced good and feels good in your hands. Not a gun to pull out and show all the buddies but it will take care of business. I like the short barell with pistol grips in 12 Gauge.
TweetFor my home defense shotgun (and not everyone has one like this- I inherited it) , I have an LC Smith (1900) 12 ga SxS with sawed off barrels @ 18 1/4"
TweetYa can't saw the barrel in the state of FL, even if it's within legal length. No sawed offs. You can buy an 18.5", but no modifying a barrel in FL.
I'd like to put an 18.5 on the Mossberg. I have to shoulder it and aim though. I can't shoot from the hip worth a shit. My wrist don't like that recoil either.
