so the lady I am seeing wants to go white water rafting. Anybody have any good ideas as to where I should go? We are probably looking for someplace we can do a 3 day trip which does not have to be all rafting. Maybe do some fishing, climbing or whatever...Thanks folks.
no idea never done that before but that sounds awsome and like something i would like to do in the near future. let us know what u decide to do and where.
my folks just got back from the grand canyon they went down the colorado. they thought it would be a lazy laid back trip but they had to work. summer is not the time to go from what i hear because the water is not flowing at full capacity so there is not as much action but dont quote me on that. my mom said she was so scared but she is scared of running into sombodys shopping cart at the store. my dad said it was great.

hit up the grand canyon, colorado river, prettiest scenery. should be good in late summer. If the rafting trip goes sour for some reason las vegas and lake havisu are close too.
have fun
THE RIVER IS IN WEST VIRGINIA. WE ARE DRIVING THAT SUCKS.

Not sure if you want to make the trip out to Utah, but we have some great WWRafting rivers.
One of my favorites is near Moab, Utah. Colorado River going through Cataract Canyon. Mainly a class 3 river but with a couple class 5's. One well know rapid is named "Table Top" is on the verge of becoming a class 6 (un passable) Here is a link to an outfitter:
CRATE offers the best rafting trips in the Grand Canyon, Utah, and Alaska. Colorado River, Green River, Tatshenshini River, and Alsek River.
Here is the classifications for rivers:
The International Scale of River Difficulty is a widely accepted rating system. Ratings range from Class 1 (the easiest) to Class 6 (the most difficult). What to expect for each class is outlined below.
Class 1 -- few ripples, maybe some small waves and few, if any, obstacles
Class 2 -- easy rapids with waves up to 3 feet; wide channels with little manuevering necessary
Class 3 -- more difficult rapids with waves large enough to swamp a canoe; narrow passages requiring manuvering
Class 4 -- large, long and difficult rapids that usually require precise manuvering
Class 5 -- terrifically difficult, extended and often violent rapids with constricted passageways (fantastically fun)
Class 6 -- generally considered unrunnable even with a Mountain Dew
I was a guide on the shenandoah river in WV/MD. it's a class 3. Check out Riverriders.com, thats where i worked. they do trips on the gulley, upper yough(bad ass!) and a few others that i never guided on. the shenandoah is great in the spring during high water. although it's still considered a class 3, during high water it's comparable to a huge class 5. you know, 15 foot standing waves and what not. I'd go to the upper yough (spell?). check out that site and give them a call, they are good people
