Tweetlow fat diets cause cholesterol to be released from the liver into the blood stream. High fat diets are better for heart health and lowering carbs. In addition it is easier to lose body fat on high fat/low carb diets.
There is no scientific basis for being concerned about choesterol as it is produced in the body, often as a response to stress. No study has ever shown a causal link between heart disease and cholesterol. In fact inflammatory proteins such as C reactive protein, PHIP, etc are better predictors of impending myocardial infarction. 70% of heart attacks occur with no specific identifiable causative agent. 15% are due to atherosclerosis and 15% due to stress incidents.
Most prevailing theories are more concerned with the 70%, which are probably caused by inflammatory reactions. This is the reason to take a 325 mg aspirin every day. Even blood pressure problems are thought to be inflammatory related now and not due to all the bunk doctors used to say..thats why 80% of people do not repond to low sodium diets to lower blood pressure.
Statin drugs taken to lower cholesterol seem to help prevent heart attack and stroke but the current understanding is the they do this by being antiinflammatory , rather than their cholesterol lowering ability. In fact these drugs are responsible for serious side effects, such as liver and muscle destruction, mental confusion and death. 2% of those consuming them suffer these side effects. Due to muscle destruction one of the fatal side effects is..heart attack.
Checking your cholesterol is a worthless pursuit as it really tells you nothing. Take an aspirin a day..full sized, eat high fat and low carb, drink tea(8-10 times higher than veggies and fruits in polyphenols- two cups a day reduces chances of a heart attack by nearly 50%..better than any drug can say. I addition keeping homocysteine levels down is VERY important and can be accomplished by taking folic acid supplements orconsuming a high red meat diet..as vitamin B12 also lowers homocysteine...again pointing out the health benefits of a redmeat diet relatively high in aniimal fats. Avoiding trans fats is easy if you eat lots of meat and little baked goods and pasta.
