SIHH 2012 hasgone by in a blizzard of tourbillons, minute repeaters, perpetual calendars, and otherhaute horological masterpieces, plus the odd watch that one can picture wearing on aneveryday basis.There were a fair few dragons around too -- of the kinddesigned in set diamonds and gold, wrapping themselves around jewelry watches. It's theYear of the Dragon in China, of course, and if there was any doubt about the influence theChinese exert on the luxury watch industry now, SIHH dispelled it. We saw more than onemajor watch reworked into a new, reduced-size version to cater to more slender wrists.The explosion in Chinese and other emerging markets sustained the watch industrythrough the economic turbulence of recent years, and Swiss companies will continue to turnever more eastward in 2012. What that means for traditional markets and traditional tastesis hard to say, but right now it means there's no shortage of stupendous horologicalcreations being produced.
