TweetNo HGH! That is probably the largest factor of all.
TweetI was looking back on some of the physiques of the golden age. They look so much better than the ones of today. I was wondering exactly how they achieved such great results with much different methods.
Obviously:
-They used much smaller dosages
-They used mostly D-bol, Primo and late in the 70's...Test
-They kept their diet clean year round
But how long were their cycles and what else (if any) did it consist of, other than maybe Primo and Dbol. Maybe they stayed on year round/low dosage for several years...who knows. Maybe there's more to that type of cleaner lifestyle and cleaner living than some give credit for? What are your thoughts? Thought this might be a healthy conversation....Shiner

TweetNo HGH! That is probably the largest factor of all.
TweetFor instance, nowadays it takes less time to build the physique you want because of a number of reasons:
-education of dieting
-more juice being used
-supplements being only of a minimal concern, but to some degree I suppose
But back then, they still achieved those physiques by their mid to late twenties. Pretty impressive....

TweetRemember that we're talking about genetics when discussing bodybuilding aesthetic. Regardless of how much you pump yourself full of GH and steroids, it doesn't really matter if you lost the gene lottery at birth. Some people have it, and some people don't. A lot of the old school bodybuilders were blessed in that category, while a lot of the new school names unfortunately do not.
TweetGood point....hadn't thought of that in a while. Kinda like asking an NBA player to bulk up and go on stage with Lee Priest/Shawn/etc..... Not likely...Shiner

TweetI still think GH is the largest factor in the change in physique. Look at a variety of photos side-by-side of say Arnold and Coleman. Mentzer and Cutler. The GH torso and cranium are very evident.
TweetDitto! I still think Zane had one of the best physics ever. He was sick lean in the midsection with even muscle bellies throughout his entire body. Sure, he was no Arnold, but he was awesome.Originally Posted by HungarianBeast
And don't forget, they didn't drink two or three protein shakes a day. They all ate whole foods around the clock. I've said it before and I'll say it again, whole foods will make better muscles in the long run. I think shakes are for convienence, not for priority.
TweetDoesn't slin attribute to the guts also?
TweetI would agree that GH, Slin, IGF-1, and much larger doses of AAS are partially responsible for how huge current bodybuilders are compared to those 25 years ago. Better nutrition, equipment, and supplementation are also factors.
I can't imagine not having good protein powders, bars, etc. It would be much harder not even considering the drugs.
TweetFrank Zane and Arnold looked awesome....They juiced but not like today
Tweet[QUOTE=cshort01]I would agree that GH, Slin, IGF-1, QUOTE]
i agree 50%, most of the pro use plasma expenders before tehy step on the stage for a day or 2......
Tweetagree with mike above, bodies of 90's are from gh, slin, and larger doses
today it's all about plasma expanders
getting a contest prep coach = getting somebody who knows this stuff and is an expert
plasma expanders started several years ago and is still a bit of a mystery to most, expect pro coaches
TweetPlasma expanders, huh? I guess that would fill you out pretty good.
TweetCan anyone explain what they are?....MIKE?
