once every few weeks I have a work day where I get called on site and it disrupts my meals for the day. My question is is it better to eat dirty crap food to stay in line with the number of meals per day or is it better to go hungry and eat clean 2 or 3 hours later?
sometimes I'm not in an area that has a good restaurant to go to.
Like Rake said I would try to pack meals with you if you can. That being said even if there's only a Wendy's or Burger King nearby you can always order a double or triple cheeseburger and just get rid of the bun so you're getting rid of all those nasty white flour carbs That's what I used to do... Order a big triple three-quarter pound cheeseburger with ketchup and mustard only and throw the bun away and eat it with a fork, along with a nice big Diet Coke. Bring shaker cups with protein powder already in them along with a nice big gallon jug of water so you can drink protein shakes along the way. Lots of little tricks you can do to make better choices and not completely ruin your diet and physique LOL
Bringing whey along is a good idea. I used to travel for a job. I used to make protein bars to take with me. Quick meals I'd go with grilled chicken, if you need to stay over night you can always find healthy options at restaurants.
I look for salmon when out to eat at a restaurant, for whatever reason, it usually comes with healthy sides like broccoli instead of fries or whatever.
If I'm traveling, I typically hit up a grocery store and raid the deli and produce department, along with the baking supply aisle as they have a ton of nuts/seeds at reasonable prices. In this day and age, you can easily subsist and support your diet by just visiting the grocery store. They usually have roasted chickens, and other sources of quality protein to make "on the road" meals easy.
