  • celiac and gluten sensitive people

I had endoscopy 5 years ago and was tested for celiacs which came back negative. I am not sure if I should get tested again, and if it can in fact be positive now? One thing I do know is I am sensitive to gluten for sure. been pretty much gluten for about 3 months and some symptoms improved. Now the past few days I have head bread and breaded things and some of the bad symptoms came back. for those of you that have either of these, what kind of symptoms do you get when consuming gluten?

if you have the funds to get tested again, then sure go for it, but you already know your sensitive to it and feel like shit afterwards so i would say spend your money elsewhere unless your concerned its a life or death situation.

eating gluten free doesnt just mean staying away from wheat products, or rye, barley, etc; it means staying away from contamination as well. if you find yourself going out to eat alot, and a restaurant has a gluten free menu isnt exactly putting you in the safe zone. its important to find out whether they have separate cooking stations and oils for gluten sensitive people, but then again your leaving it up to someone whos most likely uneducated cooking your food so contamination risks are still high.

just think, if whoever is preparing your food makes a sandwich out of wheat for customer A whos in front of you, and then makes you a gluten free sandwich without switching gloves or washing hands, your sandwich is contaminated. the contamination aspect though isnt like actually consuming the wheat product itself, but it does have an effect. i like to think of it in terms this way. people who have peanut allergies cant have even peanut oil in there food or immediately there allergic reaction takes effect, same applies to gluten sensitivity.

i dont eat out as much as the mass population does but when i do i have select restaurants i frequent bc i know not only do they offer gluten free, but contamination risks are low. when i consume gluten its an acute reaction for me so within a half an hour im feeling fatigued, when this happens i use this as a gauge on whether or not to return to that restaurant.

the most prevalent symptom i experience is fatigue, and the fatigue can get pretty dam bad. i hate being fatigued, and this isnt just a tiredness that can simply be overcome from caffeine, its like i cant think straight or at all when it hits me. i notice there are at least 3 different kinds of fatigue: mental, tired, and exhaustion. tired and exhaustion i can handle, but mental wrecks the whole day. the best thing to overcome the mental fatigue is a short cat nap, this helps clear the mind a bit.

anywase, your quality of life will improve drastically if you are very cautious on what you eat.

you may be allergic to something else if the improvement from eating gluten free is mediocre, but then again your food that your consuming may be contaminated from food prep carelessness.

people who are gluten sensitive typically have an allergy to dairy as well. if you havent been tested for other food allergies i would recommend that, chances are you may be allergic to something else.

I am pretty sure the gluten is a problem and yes dairy has been my most recent thing to rid of. Ate a small piece of cheese last week and symptoms came on quite quick. I am allergic to multiple things and have some testing done but need more .
