Need ideas for diffuseing light.

Back to the mustang dash project.
As I mentioned before, I'm going to use LED's for guage backlighting. The LED's are bright enough, but the problem is that they emit a very focused light. Kinda like a flashlight would.
I need to spread that light out (diffuse) so that I don't get bright and dim spots in the guage cluster. I already plan to avoid aiming the lights at the guages but rather reflect the light off of something else first, but this still isn't quite enough.
Any ideas?
