Reid Rams Through 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' but Dream Act Fails
In a landmark vote for gay rights, Sen. Harry Reid and fellow Democrats voted Saturday to let gays serve openly in the military, giving President Barack Obama the chance to repeal the 17-year policy known as "don't ask, don't tell." Earlier in the day, a Democratic initiative on illegal immigration known as the Dream Act was blocked by Senate Republicans.

I have an idea. If they want to let gays serve openly then give them their own separate latrines in boot camp so the majority who are straight don't have to take showers with the uncomfortable feeling that they are being stared at. That's the only thing about it that ever bothered me. There are indeed some very good military personnel who are gay so its not that big of a deal imo. But, for those that like to use it as their excuse to get out early, they will lose that card to play.

Its going to cause problems. It should be left as is.

This is MHO, anything to distract us Americans from the real issues in our country. How about congress work on something that will make a difference in peoples lives. One example, give health insurance to the heroes of 9/11 who are suffering and dying from respiratory problems. Makes me literally throw up to think these assholes in congress are dicking around with don't ask don't tell are you ****ING KIDDING ME!!!! This is simple if a man or women gay or not is going to shed blood with me or die for their country that's all i need to know!:soapbox:

I agree that it is ridiculous that they don't have full medical compensation. However, what happens in situations like this is someone in Congress sponsors a bill to cover something like this but then adds a bunch of other things in that would otherwise have a difficult time getting passed. In this case, it appears there was several billion dollars of added pork to the bill which led some members to question it. But what I would like to know is why would the firemen not have their medical bills paid already under their regular insurance? Firemen typically have excellent health benefits so I am confused as to what the problem is. Either way the whole thing is ridiculous. But don't think for a minute that the Congress gives a damn about the health of those people. Instead, they just use them to try and pass other items on their agenda. Otherwise, they would simply sponsor a bill that is specifically for the medical bills of those suffering and nothing else, but that is not the case, hence the Congress doesn't give a damn about them. I don't know what it will take for Americans to wake up and realize that the government does not care one bit about any of us. The true objective of the federal government is to usurp all the power to have complete control over every aspect of our lives and to drain us dry on money in the form of taxes. That's my 2 cents anyway.
