work that well for what? its a slow process, not something one would want to rush. once you get through your beginning weights (to establish a starting point) and really get into intense 5x5 sets, then i think you will start being able to tell better. honestly, you just answered your own question..... "i just started...."
i was doing this for a while and I really liked it. I got very strong this way. I was actually doing it to increase my endurance and build a strong base, as I was only taking 75 seconds between sets. I used a weight that I could do without a spot and still complete all 5 sets with good form (no bounce). When I started I could do 225 for 10-12 reps with good form so i started my 5x5 with 225. Every week I tried to add 5 lbs. After about 2 1/2 months I was up to 275x5 by myself, still using 75 second rests. One day after I had done 265x5 I did another set to fail and I got 9 reps perfect with no spot, which was real good for me because I have always been much better at high weight low reps. Anyway, i have tried all kind of bench programs using all kind of techniques and this simple workout worked very well for me.
Okay week 6 and really liking the result so far.
can you outline the objective of the training program for those who don't know it
Sure. The objective is to slowly but stably increase your strength or anaerobic capacity. This is done by central and peripheral means. What I mean by this is 1. you do not overload your cns (central nervous system) by not constantly going to fatigue. 2. you consistently cause micro trauma to the muscle used during the compound exercises.
Note to anyone starting it, YES YOU WILL FEEL LIKE YOUR GOING BACKWARDS WHEN YOU START, but give it time. As long as your diet is good and your micro nutrient support is good, then you will make excellent progress. In fact, if you are at a plateau in strength I highly recommend giving it a try.
Hope that helps.
