whey protein vs soy peotein
I have switched to soy protein isolate from whey protein isolate. The reason I did this is to reduce creatinine levels. My kidneys are ok but I want to keep them happy as long as I can so the switch to soy.
OK here is the beef between the 2 protein. Soy protein does not lend itself well to make muscles swell. WHY? Well animal protein when broken down releases creating which we all know hydrates the muscle and makes it bigger but not necessary stronger. Soy digest easier making the amino acids available sooner than animal source. You can get stronger with both sources but the animal source makes the muscle appear better. Soy protein does NOT increase E2 levels at all. I do not take an E2 blocker and levels are exactly the same with both proteins.
I made my choice for my kidneys (which are low normal in function) to make them happy. If I competed I would make a different choice. I am OK with getting stronger and size will increase when it is ready. I am not after the "swole" look but if it happens it happens, I just want to be strong and look good and be healthy

hey dirt. my creatinine levels get up from time to time as well, especially when i go into a cal def and at my heavier body weights. their is a product called kidney stuff that i use. the powder version not the caps. it works great at keeping the kidneys healthy as well as improving your creatinine levels in check. something to look into for you for sure
Re: whey protein vs soy peotein
Where do you get the kidney stuff

if you go onto their site the ingredients profile is on there. i will tell you this though, i tried to be a cheapo and make my own similar product and it didnt work out for me. as soon as i used the kidney stuff for 3 weeks my creatinine levels went from a little over 1.5 down to 1.26. i havent checked it since but it does drive it down and i was still in a cal def and doing cardio. so i know some muscle is being broken down
Re: whey protein vs soy peotein
Going down that much is dramatic. That stuff must be great
Re: whey protein vs soy peotein
Let us know how you make out with the switch. I used it years ago but my stomach just couldn't take it but I'm sure the taste and consistency has changed since then
Re: whey protein vs soy peotein
I have been on soy isolate for about 6 months. It is chalky in flavor next I will try the flavored kind. I am still making gains in strength a lot but not so much in size, that is ok for me because I don't compete. Someone on stage may not want the soy. It mixes easy in a shaker cup. I had no bloating or digestion problems with it..
For someone on stage where people expect the best I can't recommend soy. Small changes can mean the difference between Best of Show and 2nd.
Me the choice was easy.

man it is pretty nasty. you have to start off with lower end dosing and slowly work up with it or it will absolutely wreck your guts. i actually mix it into my fiber to crush the taste haha. i take it with my last meals of the day
Re: whey protein vs soy peotein
I'm going to check into the kidney stuff as well. Been looking for something like that.

follow the directions on the bag and go with the powder not the caps. if you follow the directions you shouldnt have any issues with it. that and take it at the end of the day closer to bed time
Re: whey protein vs soy peotein
I like plant proteins but soy is probably the last source I'd look to. I'm a huge fan of pea protein, but really anything with a blend of a couple protein sources ie pea, brown rice, etc.
Re: whey protein vs soy peotein
Ive been eating a lot of Spirutein lately. Its soy, peas and rice protein with spirulina. Tastes great.
