For competition purposes I say yes. Im not a "form *****", but deads are the one that I do try to keep somewhat strict and at low reps. I feel as fatigue sets in from higher reps your groove gets a little funky and opens you up for possible injury. Although I've seen some hitching MoFos and never get hurt once....
Depends on the person. Some people just shouldnt deadlift. Ever.
Then you hear of some 80 year old dude deadlifting 700 pounds with no problem. Go figure.
I deadlift pretty often, but rarely go SUPER heavy. I'll occasionally get in the the 4-5 rep range, but almost never go all the way to a single one rep pull. I'm doing them for the density and thickness and for me I get that best with a little lighter weight and higher volume. I do notice as I've gotten older, the less "sloppy" I can allow myself to be during a lift. Form is paramount with deads.
I never go heavy. At most 1/2 my max or less. I have a really light frame. add some AAS and I get real strong and that is a combo for me getting hurt. train smarter not heavier I say.
