Lower back pain
My lower back tends to get VERY sore whenever I do exercises that require me to stabilize myself while standing up. Exercises such as Y rope tricep cable pulldowns, machine cable rope bicep curls, and just about any shoulder exercise. What can I do about it? I just bought a back brace to allow me to continue working those muscles groups but I would like to not have to rely on it.

Re: Lower back pain
I have chronic back pain too. I find the "superman" stretch/exercise to be the best for me.

Re: Lower back pain
Never heard of it, I will look on Youtube. Thanks!

Re: Lower back pain
Oh, as a note, it only hurts when I have to do a lot of stabilization. Walking a long distance (a few miles), running a few miles, doing the exercises I mentioned (above), and such. On a normal day, it does not hurt at all.

Re: Lower back pain
If you have access to a foam roller, i highly suggest that pre workout. And this is probably a moot point. But make sure your form is correct. You may be overcompensating if the weight is to heavy? Also try a fee min on treadmill to warm up. I suffer every day with back pain and have to pay extra attention when working certain groups. But the foam roller..giggity

Re: Lower back pain
Any specific foam rollers that are recommended? I have seen a plethora of them out there...

Re: Lower back pain
I bought a lifting support belt to help me for now and will get a roller to help me afterwards. Used the belt tonight during squats and it really did help. Once I get the pain to go away, I will work on strengthening the other muscles my back is obviously making up for.
Thanks you guys, you have been great help. My wife will love using the roller on me, especially if it hurts!

Re: Lower back pain
Forgot to tell, I am 46. I do not consider myself old, but I also do not consider myself young either. I have been told I LOOK like I am in my 30s, though. :)

Re: Lower back pain
i have compressed verts in my lower back starting at my tail bone going up three verts from a blast back in 05. i got sent to pt and all that crap for about a year and a half and it didnt do anything good for me at all. so much so that i completely stopped doing squats deads or anything that put pressure on it to try to get it healed up. now i still have it flair up on me from time to time today but what i did to get mine back to where it didnt kill was this: i did 3-6 sets of 10 on hyper extensions every day post workout. i did deads on back day to a weight that i could tolerate and i trained abs eod. some days i had to wait about 10 mins or so before i left but it got so much better once i got it conditioned. now i dont do the hypers with the same frequency as i did when i was rehabbing it myself but i do roll before and after i train i stretch before and after and i see a chiro that i trust weekly to be adjusted. he also does some active release stuff on me as well to open everything up. big thing with lower back issues if you dont have an actual busted vert is we tend to not push them to condition so it can stand the load we place on it.

Re: Lower back pain
I broke my back and neck in a car accident way back when. I have been going to every type of therapy out there. including homeopathic. The Rheumatologist that I have been seeing for the last 5 years has only addressed the pain side of my situation. He pumps me full on narcotics! I have more opiates then the pharmacies lol. Truth be told my thoughts are that one day I myself will address the pain one last time. Till then I get by one day at a time.
