Re: gun violence
Living in gun loving South, there is no way Americans are ever going to give up their guns ( there may be regulations, but the 2nd amendment is here to stay whether anyone likes it or not). What we need to do is look to countries like Switzerland where they make the gun culture work. Its interesting that the Swiss focus on safety and responsiblity of gun ownership as opposed to America's 'old west' mentality. It's too bad we can't adopt those values here to make kids & adults more aware of how big the responsibilities to own firearms really are. To set things straight, I got a 40 calibre Smith and Wesson semiautomatic gun for Valentine's day from my husand 10 yrs ago. It is kept in a safe since I have children at home.

Re: gun violence
As a physician I support waiting periods. It won't make a dent in homocides but since suicides are generally impulsive, we think that waiting periods are a good idea and may affect suicide by guns ( the top method males in this country commit successful suicide completion). I also own a shot gun, two hunting rifles and a glock. None of the current regulations being bantered about is going to affect my ownership of these guns....so this hysteria that the government is going to come and take my guns is foolishness. Now, if I was hoarding ammunition for a potential Zombie takeover, some of these restrictions might put me on the radar, but, thank goodness, I don't believe in an apocylypse or zombie takeovers......

Re: gun violence
You don't think the governenment will confiscate all guns, but this is just merely the start. Once they get started with taking a few things it will continue to escalate. AR's and high cap mags might be the first to go but then it might be high powered rifles or handguns. And you think the Second Ammendment will never be broken? Or current government is trying its best to rapidly errode away the founding principles. What do you think had happened to every other country on the planet, besides the US and the Swiss. No one else on the planet is allowed firearms, unless under very special circumstances.
I do however commend your safe gun ownership and am glad you have them. More people should think as you do.

Re: gun violence
conversely gun sales have more than doubled and murder has decreased even as the population increases and many people are desperate due to the economy.
