Getting this Puppy Pitbull today
Heading to the rescue today to pick her up. She is 10 weeks old. She was rescued from a horrific situation with dreadful conditions. The rescue named her Pickles. We arent sure if we will keep that name for her. What name would you give her?

Re: Getting this Puppy Pitbull today
My wife got a message on FB last week from the lady we adopted our current pit from (she runs a shelter for pits) she sent my wife a picture of this beautiful brunel pit and said the puppy was lonely and refused to eat. Without intervention he was going to be put down. We are not ready for another dog now. We are buying a new house etc. I told my wife under those circumstances we would take him and make him family. 20 minutes later she said they had already put him down without her knowledge. I am so pissed.

Re: Getting this Puppy Pitbull today
Ive not had a puppy this young before. What the hell do you do to get some sleep? I put her in a crate, she barks non stop so I take her out. I put her in bed and she wants to chew on me with teeth like needles. I wonder if I will get some sleep....Ohhhh shit...what did I get myself into? LOL

A lot of shelter managers are cold blooded murderers. Our shelter was killing 8 week old puppies. These people have no remorse and are as cold as ice. Fucking disgusting.

Re: Getting this Puppy Pitbull today
Oh boy, it gets better. But for all practical purposes you just brought a piranha into the house. Shes teething and discovering that it's fun to bite. I've found the best deterrent to the biting is when she bites you to take your thumb and hold her tongue down. It's very unpleasant but doesnt hurt her, and she will emediatly pull away but it's a very effective method to teach her not to bite and usually works pretty quick. Dont play tug-o-war with her and definitely dont rough house play with her it encourages bad behavior as adults. I've raised many pit pups and they are the sweetest, fiercely loyal dogs. Try getting a pillow or blanket or something that smells like you and put in her pen. Also dont let her nap a lot in afternoon, wear her out playing or go for a long walk before bed time so she will be more likely to sleep for a few hours. Raising a pit puppy is like raising a child, with a mouth foul of needles lol. My arms have been so marked up from my pups before lol

Re: Getting this Puppy Pitbull today
Oh also if her crate is big enough get in it with her or sit right beside it at bedtime and pet her, no playing, just try to mellow her out so she will sleep. Once shes asleep u can go to bed. Sleep when she sleeps lol it's the only true path to getting rest. Be patient bud, shes had a traumatic youth but u got her young enough to teach her to be a loving quality family pet.

Re: Getting this Puppy Pitbull today
She howled bloody murder while she was in that crate ...as soon as I put her in bed with me, she slept like a rock. As long as her head is on me, she is fine. Dang this girl is a handful.
-
Re: Getting this Puppy Pitbull today
I had one that always wanted to lay his head on my neck while I slept. It was cool while he was 8 weeks lol, wasn't so cool when he was 6 months...
U can put a stuffed animal his size In his crate and they will often snuggle it like they do u. A nice trick is to put a ticking clock inside the stuffed animal so it simulates heart beat.(-; such fun creatures but they will test your parenting skillz 😁

Re: Getting this Puppy Pitbull today
great looking little pup. welcome to owning a pit. things you dont want to do. dont let her do things now you dont want her doing when she is older. like getting in the bed. getting on the couch etc. blueedge has great advice. take her for a short walk you have to remember she is young she can go on longer walks has she get older. the best thing to do is wear her out take her outside and play. also get her some good food not some cheap walmart food.. i free feed all my dogs they eat less like that. one of my pits sleeps in bed with the wife and i.
you need any info on pits let blueedge and i know. get her some toys something for her to chew on nothing to hard..

Re: Getting this Puppy Pitbull today
Apbt549 is right, she needs high quality food. Blue buffalo and similar high protein brands are good but expensive. If u live near a feed and speed type store you can buy high quality dog food cheaper at those compared to pet store. Those farm supply type places carry hunting dog feed and if u look at ingredients they use good stuff in good ratios for fraction of what pet store cost, plus bags are much bigger. Pitbulls ears should stand up, the reason they flop is because when their in growth spurts their calcium drops and without food high in calcium they flop. Some stand back up once dog is about a year old. But if u keep good food in her it will definitely aid getting her ears to stand back up.

Cute pup. I am bad at names. I always name dogs with "human" names.

Re: Getting this Puppy Pitbull today
i feed my dogs fromm. i get it from an online place. they eat less food if they are getting food and not some filler like the cheap food have. you also might try getting her some blankets my dogs love blankets they will drag them around the house and lay on them. also put some blankets in the crate for her to lay on and never yell or scold her and put her in the crate leave the crate door open and when you put her in the crate give her a treat everytime 2 of my pits will walk right in there crate when i tell them its bed time the other male doesnt care about bed time hes not going in there with out little help. one huge thing about pits is they can be very stubborn you have to out smart them.
my first red nose female when she was a pup she would grab pine cones on morining walks and i didnt want her to bring those in the house so i would fight with her on the front porch trying to get it out of her month well that didnt go well. so started to bring a treat with me in my pocket and when i wanted her to drop the pine cone i would just pull out this treat and she would drop it..

This is a good opportunity for me to be able to dispell the myths of pitbulls. We have several elected officials who want to ban Pitbulls in the city. Bunch of assholes

Re: Getting this Puppy Pitbull today
Geez I hate when uneducated people try to control others. Pitbulls are often animal aggressive by nature but they are not human aggressive unless they are raised by irresponsible owners. Punishing the breed is denial of the bigger picture, many people should not own ANY dog. Being a responsible owner is a huge part of owning a working dog breed. I always kept a pad lock on my privacy fence and my dogs never left the yard without a harness/leash on them. When I walked one of my dogs that was animal aggressive, if someone walked my direction with another dog, I would steer clear or turn around, and often warn them from a distance my dog was animal aggressive and please not to bring their dog near mine. You would be shocked how many people would respond "my dogs not" and come towards me...wtf?? I've literally had to yell at people "do not come near my dog with your dog, my dog will kill yours!" And the ding-bats still come near....often they owned a dog much bigger than mine and I guess the thinking was their dog being bigger, that my dog wouldn't be a problem..
Not all pits are animal aggressive but some just have it in their Genes to be that way. Socializing them helps reduce this but being a responsible owner is the most important part. Pits are such wonderful pets, but their working dogs and need their exercise and attention or they will tear your house to shreds lol..jk kinda sorta

Re: Getting this Puppy Pitbull today
Cute dog, looks super happy. Humans do not deserve dogs but I'm so glad we have them my dogs are my world, don't think id have made it as far as i have it it wasn't for them.
Im terrible with names. I literally named my dog "charlie the chocolate lab" because well she's a chocolate lab and also because of that ouch charlie bit my finger video was stuck in my head lol. but we obviously just call her charli.
I dot get the whole pitfall killer thing.
Ive had one pit try to eat me and i was in HIS house.
Every dog that that has or has tried to attack me was not a pit. Believe it or not the most aggressive dog i ever encountered so far in terms of how many times I've met one thats tried to eat me was that large poodle bread.

such a great point.. very true words.. my first red nose female i posted pictures of her on here in the drier i had to lock all of the doors in the house if you didnt want her opening them. she could open the slider even if it was locked so had to pin that one. all of the other doors you had to lock or she would open them. friends would come over and see the key next to the garage door on my tool box and ask what that was about i told them i had to lock myself outside if i didnt want her coming outside..
like blueedge said she didnt like other dogs didnt matter male or female and you would tell people this and they would let there dog come right up to her so now i am pulling her back by the leash then have to speak up and say hey dumb ass did you not hear me? your dog gets close to here she will jump on them and she was sneaky she would get cranked up or raise hell she would keep quiet and once they got close she was on them i could see the look in her eyes and know what was coming...
one of my biggest issues with pits is not everyone should own them let alone own a dog they are a life long commitment and pits have very high prey drive and need to kept busy or they will get into trouble...

Re: Getting this Puppy Pitbull today
She is way better than I ever expected. She is so calm. She rides in my truck and just curls up in the front seat and sleeps while my other dogs are sticking their heads out the window and all hyped up. I left her alone in myoffice on friday for an hour and she didnt move from her dog bed, slept the whole time. Im amazed. The rescue said they never had a puppy before that was so calm. I hope she stays that way. Her temperament makes her so easy to deal with.
