Freedom of speech at school
I have to say that I am enjoying our daughter's experience in High Schoo, so far. She loves to debate, write, and loves history. In class yesterday they had a discussion of politics. Democrat or Republican. She was 1, of 2 kids, who stood their ground as a "Republican". Her teacher asker her " Is that what your parents told you to be?". She responded with "My parents do not tell me what I should choose". Teach asker her to give her 3 positives about being a Republican? I guess our daughters response was not quick enough but she didsay to the teach :" My Mom tells me I should be a lawyer". Teach says.." I don't think that will work for you because you cant even come up with 3 things good about the Republican party". Nice huh? What makes me feel good is that she is uses her voice and doesnt get all pissy if she is not agreed with. I value teachers but feel no need to get on such a personal level.
Re: Freedom of speech at school
Last month she got razzed for wearing a sports headband. She still is wearing them. Our kids can teach us a thing or 2. I think it is important that we let them speak BUT not in a defiant matter.
Re: Freedom of speech at school
That teacher has no business talking to a student like that. How dare her tell a child what they can and cant do. Plus trying to belittle a kids political opinion. I swear, these teachers are as bad as religious fanatics
Re: Freedom of speech at school
I value some teachers. That one pisses me off. It's a bully move to do that to child.
I don't know how I would answer what 3 positives are there for being a Republican. I believe what I believe.

we learned the political process and how government worked. it was required education. i dont recall at any point in my schooling being asked my parents or my own political pref. teachers nor the school system has no business teaching children about one political party or the other. it is another ploy to indoctrinate them into whichever side they believe in and most of the time it is the radical left. college is 10x worse but it is trickling down into high school and grade school more and more. i think the kids need a healthy debate and to learn but it should be on neutral ground. i dread starting up my courses next week because it is going to be very difficult for me to bs my opinion. fortunately i am optimistic that it may not be that bad because i am attending a military university.
Re: Freedom of speech at school
school is an indoctrination camp now for the weak minded. Your daughter should arm herself (Not physically but with facts), as a conservative (AKA fascist **** according to the left) she will always be challenged. I am sure y'all will give good council.
And just remember those cannot do, teach.
I learned in college that professors were some of the dumbest ass folk I had met. They were able to regurgitate information they had stored in their brain but were unable to apply that to a practical situation. (some profs were sharp, but not many) Make no mistake, collection of knowledge is not intelligence it just shows you have a good memory.
Re: Freedom of speech at school
5% of teachers are probably pretty good, but many of them just want to convert as many kids into socialists as they can. It like a religion to those bastards
Re: Freedom of speech at school
baby good for her for standing her ground... i vote for the people i share the same views on...
i told my wifes son who turned 18 this year to go vote.. i didnt say who or what to vote for but to go vote..
i agree that teacher should keep her beliefs to herself and just teach how the goverment works not what she or he thinks. the other issue i have with that party is if you dont believe what they do they try to bully you..

This teacher is a pain i8n the ass and I cant wait until Parent teacher conference again so I can tell this woman STFU
Re: Freedom of speech at school
Seems like there are more and more teachers that shouldn't be teaching nowadays. I just recently heard some stories about professors offering their students extra credit if they voted a certain way. That kind of crap aggravates me to no end.
