When your workout partner is a jerk.
This is why I like to train alone.
What do you think about this:About 2 months ago I started training every day with the dude that owns the gym. He is a guy who thinks he knows everything and all he does is talk about himself. He is also a very bossy person. He is the owner and he is used to telling people what to do. I have tolerated it. I laugh and tell him to stop being bossy. He has had to miss workouts and so have I. Maybe 1 or 2. He has had to miss as many workouts as me. Last Friday I could not go to the gym. He mocked me when I missed a workout because my dog ran away. No sympathy, just a jerk.
The dude likes training with me because I train extreme. He tells me that training with me has rejuvenated his life. Even his wife tells me how much he likes training with me. While he is bossy and rude at times and I am not going to put up with that shit
Well, last night I think he crossed the line. He sends me a text something like this: "dood, are you going to workout or make more excuses"
Should I be irritated?
For me, I think the best training partner is a big set of headphones.
Re: When your workout partner is a jerk.
I think you need to take his text with a grain of salt boss, honestly.
Re: When your workout partner is a jerk.
i think he's just trying to keep you motivated....there's a guy at my gym that we fuk with each other all the time. he''l gety ready to do a heavy dumbell bench set and i'll yell from the other side of the gym (holding up the pink weights) "DUDE...YOU NEED THESE?"....its all for motivation and to prod to hit it hard and keep it going...he digs on me all the time for missing workouts....just ribbing eachother for motivation. he may not be trying to offend
Re: When your workout partner is a jerk.
yea i hate bossy people but if he likes training with you im sure this is just his way of trying to help you. Just let it go or send something back liek i assumed you needed a few extra days to try and catch up to where i am.
Re: When your workout partner is a jerk.
Similaritys not differences, if he gets to you that bad then don't workout with him, but if you can motivate each other and generate good results then overlook the small time bs. Over half the people I work out with at my gym give each other a hard time, we are guys and we just do that shit to each other and 99% of the time it is just motivational.
Re: When your workout partner is a jerk.
Maybe you just shouldn't have a workout partner... I can get like that too I just gotta remind myself its just fun and games... sounds to me like he's just horsein around.
Re: When your workout partner is a jerk.
Ya, probably so. It wouldnt be such an issue if it was an isolated issue. He has acted like this often. His general attitude is very bossy. Do you guys like being around people who are constantly telliing you what to do and being real bossy about it? I guess I am a person who doesnt like someone constantly riding his ass. I have always loved training alone or with a chick. If you find a girl who is fit and can train, its the best.

Re: When your workout partner is a jerk.
Oh, I also forgot to say that I sent him back a text saying to shut the f**k up...I should have let myself cool down before I teed up the F bomb...hahaha
Re: When your workout partner is a jerk.
I hate training/lifting alone, i can't ever seem to get out of myself what someone motivating me can! Right now i am trying to shape up and get ready for my race season while at the same time racing a summer series, running in the morning and lifting in the evening plus practicing on the off weekends, BRUTAL!

Hahaha. That works too
Re: When your workout partner is a jerk.
I dunno I do just about everything by myself, I dont have to worry about he/she is feeling, personality or whatever and I get things done as planned. Sure it's fun with company but in my experience I allways get screwed by the "other half ", and have to make up on myown.

I trained alone for so many years . I had a partner and he was my best friend and he died of cancer andf after that I didnt want to train with anyone anymore. Well now I workout with my wife preety much now and she has improved while working out with me.
