Could Jesus have been married?
I just finished reading "Holy Blood, Holy Grail". What a crock of Shlt. I've also read the "Dead Sea Scrolls" back in December. A few years back, I was speaking to Father Brian Daley who teaches Theology at Notre Dame. Yes, I said Notre Dame. Not "Just some" school. I asked him about the dead sea scrolls, and the Book of Mary Magdeline. His answer to me was "If someone walked into my office tomorrow, and said they had inarguable proof that Jesus was married, first person I would say would be Mary Magdeline?"
It was refreshing to speak to someone of his calibur and intelligence, who was open minded about different topics. He reminded me that the Bible was a bunch of readings that were found, and agreed upon by the Catholic church. So there might be 1000 other books that were all written at the same time. But the ones we see in the Bible were the ones the Catholic Church wanted us to see. And very easily, the Book of Judas and Mary Magdeline could have some validity.
Any thoughts that are open minded?
Re: Could Jesus have been married?
who knows...could be. like he said, the catholic church chose what they WANTED you to see/read. i dont rule anything out. anyones opinions on the matter is just that....opinions. none of us were there, so if someone say's that, this or that coulda happened, it's just as likely, imo, that it did, as it is with anything thats in the bible.
Re: Could Jesus have been married?
if you believe that Jesus is the son of *** then the answer is no he couldnt have been married and had sex etc... That wasnt his job... But there is no point in asking these things because you have those that believe and those that dont and it will always be this way.

I agree with you.

the dumb word filter blinked out g o d ?
Re: Could Jesus have been married?
I believe that some other writings out there could have some validity. I also believe that there are likely some that are forgeries or flat out false so you have to be careful. I highly doubt Jesus was ever married but he certainly did seem to have a different kind of connection with Mary. She was the first to see him after the ressurection, etc.....
If you believe that Jesus is the son of God then it would follow that although he had the human experience he couldn't have fully felt what the rest of us feel in terms of temptation.

Sounds like a pretty open minded Father to even consider the hypothetical of Jesus being married and that some texts could have validity outside of the Bible. Sounds like a cool guy to have some drinks with.

Again, he was very open minded to all teachings. And the question is:
what do we believe?
The answer is: What is written in the Bible.
So what is in the Bible?
Answer- Just what Father, and PROFESSOR, Brian Daley said. "It's a bunch of writings the Catholic Church wanted us to see." 500 years ago, if it was written in the Bible that Jesus had a cru-cut and was clean shaven, we would find it hard to believe he had long hair and a beard.
Re: Could Jesus have been married?
So how bout people who are telling me "You need to get into the WORD OF G O D!"...if this was picked out by a bunch of human catholics, why are so many non-Catholics claiming that the bible is the word of g o d????...Then you have the mormons who believe Jesus came to america about 3,000 years ago and they claim that their book is "The word of God"...who knows what to believe?????...and yes, that Priest would be a good guy to get baked with and shoot the shi t wit...lol
Re: Could Jesus have been married?
sounds like a cool priest, I like to discuss different points of view and things that go against the norm. People who are closed off usually dont learn anything, if it wasnt for people with open minds we might still think the world is flat LOL The bible is an interesting topic since it wasnt written until after his death and was passed on by story telling at least from what I understand, then the priest were the ones that kept it and wrote it so who knows maybe it changed over time...And arent there many books that they decided not to add to the bible only the ones they saw fit?
Re: Could Jesus have been married?
thats exactly right Merc. Heres what is weird- I know a lot of Fundamentalist Christians who think that the bible is the absolute word of Go d, yet they believe Catholics are all going to hell..I am not joking. i am seriously going to ask him "So, where did your bible come from???"..Honestly, I doubt that 90% of Christians couldnt answer that question..if they knew the role Catholics played in its selection, they would probably deny that as a fact..I have apastor coming to my office in 15 minutes and Im going to ask him, Point blank. I will let you all know what he says
Re: Could Jesus have been married?
I think that's the problem today. There's too many close minded people in the Catholic religion. Catholics look at the Bible, like it was hand written by Jesus himself. And they take it as absolute LAW. That's fine for them. I like to have an open mind on things. If there's 27 books in the new testament, there could have really been 200 found by the Catholic church. How about the other 173? And now with the dead sea scrolls, keep and opn mind that there could be 176 unpublished books. And the Book of Mary Magdeline and Book of Judas could be two. Why is it so hard to believe that Judas JUST MIGHT NOT have been a traitor? Why is it hard to believe that Judas may have been asked by Jesus to betray him, to set the whole crucifixion in motion? Because it's been written in the Bible for many centuries that Judas was a traitor? Maybe the Vatican had another book that was destroyed that also was written that Jesus asked Judas to betray him. Now, that would make 2 books in Judas' favor. Just what if?? Think of the possibilities. We are taking a book that was put together by a bunch of mere mortal men, who back in the day, despised everything non christian. The vatican just changed it stance on Mary Magdeline several years ago, to officially announce she wasn't a prostitute.
