yep:Compulsive hoarding (or pathological hoarding or disposophobia[1] or the Messie mindset) is a mental disorder marked by an obsessive need to acquire (and failure to use or discard) a significant amount of possessions, even if the items are worthless, hazardous, or unsanitary.
Man, I bet these people get coc kroaches and mice and all kinds of other nasty bugs. I think it is good that its being recognized and people can get help now.
Chronic disorganization is a constant battle for me. My dad was the most organized man Ive ever known. I wonder why I didnt aquire that from him.aybe I rebelled against it. I dunno

"It's mine!!,All mine,leave it alone!!"
Re: Hoarders, Buried Alive
It is definitely a mental condition.
A good buddy of mine's grandpa passed away a few years pack. He was a semi-pro golfer who eventually became a golf trainer. I went with my buddy to his grandpa's house to help straighten things up. well...this guy had tons of brand new golf bags, clubs, balls, shirts, shorts, pants, hats, ubrellas, ect....i mean tons of it. 90% of the stuff was not even opened. From what i understand, manufacturers would just send stuff to him all the time was he was a golfer and grandpa never told them to stop. Like i said the stuff was brand new but, unfortunately, like 30 years old. Probably could sell it to John Daly...lol..Anyway we get to the garage and stiing inside is this big old sweet Cadillac. We look at each other and say "lets go for a ride". Driving down the road, something was just not right. The ride seemed very mushy, handled like crap, and no pickup. We pull off to a gas station to look at the tires, all were ok. We pop the trunk and, low and behold, completely filled with golf balls. I mean thousands inside. Piled so high they were rolling out as we picked up the trunk. We busted out laughing...you can say grandpa was a hoarder
Re: Hoarders, Buried Alive
Alot of times when it comes time to clean these peoples houses out there are valubles in there sometimes and they didnt even know it.I watched a show and this lady had a sale on everything she had aquired and she got over 30k dollars in her garage sale.
Re: Hoarders, Buried Alive
I stand guilty!! I am a semi-hoarder.
Mind you, I say semi because you can see the floor that have to be walked on, as opposed to crap packed to the ceiling. My dad used to be a pack rat, especially in his truck and at his shop, and I think I picked it up from him. I have a problem with throwing away old mail and old clothes. However, I'll wake up at times and suddenly for no reason begin cleaning up the place. One thing that's for sure, I DO NOT allow my dishes to pile up in the kitchen sink or have the bathroom get so dirty and funky.
I remember my best friend since junior high used to have a really bad problem with hoading. When he was living with his parents, their home would be enormously clean. But when you go to his room, you need a map and navigation system just to find the floor to the room. Then when he got married and moved out, he and his wife would have the same problem throughout the house, rather than one room. Can you imagine going to a person's house, planned or not, and having to stand on the front porch for about 5 minutes while they quickly arrange the place to be more presentable and allow you a place to sit? :iconeek:
