TweetI actually got a phone call today from the local newspaper asking me if they can do a story on this. It's freakin one of a kind.
As my 40th birthday is approaching, I started making a "bucket list" a few months ago. As some know, I love to shoot guns. However, I don't hunt, and never have even tried it. So my brother says "Just for one year, get your hunting license, and lets go hunting together as a family."
It took him about a month of prodding, but I decided to go to the safety classes and get my license. My first time out was yesterday. It was my bother, my dad, and me. We went to a private farm about 20 miles from my home. My brother knew the guy. We load up in my Pathfinder and head out. After 7 hours in the snow and mud, nada. I seen a deer, but by the time I brought my rifle up, he was gone.
So, we all load up in my truck, and make the 30 minute trek back. As we're going down the road, my brother starts talking about how it sucked we didn't get anything, and it's not always like that. And usually it's fun, etc.... I'm talking to my brother, looking at him, then my dad yells "watch it!!!"
I look at the road, and a doe is standing about 10 feet from my truck. I slam on my brakes, but still hit the living sh*t out of it doing about 40. Shes laying in the road, twitching. A cop shows up, calls the game warden, who says "Shoot it." The game warden then says "Does the kid have a hunting license?" As I'm wearing my cammo, the cop says "Yea, I'm about 99.9% sure he does." The game warden says "As him if he wants the deer." I tell the cop the story about it's my first day hunting EVER in my life, and this is how I get my first deer. The cop laughs, takes the police report for my insurance company, and we go on out merry way. Today, the cops wife calls me, says she's a reporter for the local paper, and wants to write a little blurb on it. LOL. I'm still up in the air about it. However, under the freedom of info act, she can still write something and publish my name. She just said it would be better to get my point of view to add the funny personal twist to it. I told her I would call her on Monday.
Folks, you can't even make a story like that up.
