TweetThe .22LR cal. is the way to go for a first gun if she gets comfortable with it and can hit a target, then she could move up to a bigger caliber.Try a revolver for her first gun also and it is still the most goof-proof weapon
TweetOur anniversary and her birthday is coming up and I'm toying with getting her a handgun. What are your suggestions for her first gun and the pros and cons? I let her shoot my .40 a while back and it was a bit much. She didn't feel confident with it.

TweetIm not sure what kind of. 40 you have but I shot my buddys glock. 40 and the recoil was very minimal and the gun was extremely comfortable. I wouldn't think twice about buying a girl one of those. Also they are all around great guns

TweetI have a Glock also.

TweetI got mine a 5 shot 38 lady smith by s&w its very lite and not too much to handle, i also have the glock 23 witch is a bit much for my girl to fire with any skill. I sent her to a class and she's on the money with it now. Hope this helped one thing i had to press to her is it does no good stuffed down in her purse.
Tweetbluegill beat me to it, a 38 revolver is a good starter along with a .22 also. I would suggest a .22 only b/c ammo is so cheap that she could shoot all day for an entire week on $40!

TweetGood point ammo costs more and more
Tweeti have a .22 revolver and it is a blast to shoot. my wife likes shooting it. if you are looking for a fun gun to shoot and protection. the guys have it right. .38 wheel gun is tops
TweetOfficial old person term!!! All the old timers loved their revolvers because of little maintenance. You could dip it in maple syrup, drag it behind your car for two hours, pick it up, pull the trigger and it goes BANG!

TweetI was thinking either .22 or .38 also. I think either of those will be a good choice. I just wanted to hear other people's thoughts on this as well.

TweetMY WIFE HAS A GLOCK 19 9MM AND LOVES IT....CHEAP TO TARGET SHOOT WITH AND ENOUGH FOR HER TO PROTECT HERSELF WITH ALSO. 15 IN THE CLIP ISNT BAD EITHER - SO IF SHE DOESNT HIT YOU WITH ONE..SHES GOT MORE FOR YA!!!
TweetI was wondering if a 9mm might be too much. I wanted to surprise her with it, so I didn't want to get her to go try them....but that would be best, I guess

Tweet I would say .22 but... A

is a great gun and little to no recoil. Great stopping power for its size and light as a feather.

TweetRuger LCP .38 is a great choice. A friend of mine bought one for his wife and I let my fiancée shoot it and she loved it. It's a hammerless revolver (concealed hammer) so very easy to use. If you want something a with a little larger frame then I would opt for the Springfield XDM 9mm. It's very easy to use and has minimal recoil, plus it has a safety, unlike Glocks. You get 19+1 rounds in this so there's plenty of shots in case the need. I have the standard size one and absolutely love it. It has never jammed on me in close to 1,000 rounds of various ammo.
