TweetHOLY CRAP!!!!!!!THANKS FOR THE INFO. Thats crazy man
TweetNow your information is really in trouble! The thieves are getting their hands on the same technology that many gas stations use, where you just pass your credit card over the device to pay for your stuff.
Well, the thieves are putting these into bags and all they have to do is walk close enough to you to scan and they can get your card numbers, expiration dates, and sometimes your names just by walking by you. Then they can email this info to anywhere in the world.
The guy showing how it worked said that after a ball game or something, he could easily get thousands of numbers in a matter of minutes. And they even ordered some stuff under a fake name and had it sent to a foreclosed house and the products arrived.
It's getting scary out there. They say to wrap your cards in aluminum foil or find a protective sleeve.

TweetThey sell little sleeves to put your cards in to block the RF waves.
They call you paranoid until the worst happens, and in the aftermath they will call you a hero.
TweetThey can also get your Passport information depending on how current it is and if it utilizes RFID

TweetIf you work in a federal trade zone such as a refinery, chemical plant, pipeline, dock, port, or are a trick driver that delivers to these places you have to have a TWIC card issued by the government. These cards have all of your info on them and use RFID. I have a sleeve on mine to keep some random crook from walking by and stealing all my info.

Tweetgetting your ID stolen or just a CC is a real pitfa! Could take years to resolve and, in that meantime, your still responsibile
TweetAre you serious? responsible ? damn that would suck
TweetYou can see if your card has the RF signal, as rc10 mentioned, by looking on the back. It will have a little logo that looks like a satellite with 2 or 3 curves lines in front of it. (like radio waves). Unless I misunderstand what you're talking about rc10. I do know about the radio logo thing.
I'm actually just recovering from getting cleaned out by some sorry ass thief. They got my bank card info, somehow. I saw this story during lunch about a wk after I realized what happened to our account. But they were running a story in the news studio, and the guy had a little pad. (about half the size of a mouse-pad). He had a laptop on the counter, and all he had to do was run his wallet a few inches over the pad, and bam, all his banking info appeared on the laptop. Name, card #, address, etc...everything needed to make a purchase with was gathered just by running that little pad near a wallet. I never even thought of it as getting my identity stolen, until I saw my name and billing address used on the purchases.
I always used to joke like I had nothing to worry about, being I'm nobody's wealthy. In the financial sense, at least.lol..I always said, someone would be pissed if they worked to get my info, cause they ain't financing shit. I'm thinking house, rv, boat, cars, whatever...but, never thought about someone hiking my bank card info and digging right into my money. Again, thank God I had nothing much to go through, but it was enough to bite like hell just before Christmas. The policeman that wrote the report asked if it was the 1st time it's happened. Every person at the bank that I had to deal with asked if it was the 1st time. I was in a state of, wtf!?? 'Is this bs supposed to happen?'..to everybody?..ya know. Their reply, "yep". so, basically, I guess we're all gonna get had one day by this fuked up way of stealing from people. And the investigator acted like it was almost impossible to catch the sorry ass thieves.
It is fuking bullshit is what it is. I wish they would focus on actual crime like thieves, violence, and the worst twisted shit that people get away with everyday. But there's a "war on" inanimate objects that can't even break the law. Why don't we focus on things with a pulse? Instead of something that can't even move. They have it right with alcohol & cigarettes. And I'm no advocate for either of those. Our resourses are being wasted though.
And, an alcoholic, addict of anything, was likely not who stole from me. Not by the bullshit that they purchased. Just a true criminal. A fukin scum of the earth thief!
