TweetDeperession is a dangerous thing and people just think oh it wont happen to me or I'm not seeing a therapist. Everyone should occasionaly see a therapist because in this day and age we all feel a little blue
TweetThought this was an interesting article. There has been a lot in the news this week about depression since that football player killed himself.Unreal the Ricky Williams story and how his coach put him down for being depressed. I have delt with depression at various times, as I am sure many people do. Some people dont understand.

TweetThat's the thing about depression - it becomes a chemical imbalance that distorts your view of the world and your own situation, and also your ability to deal with that view. And is not easily overcome, even when treated with medication.

I believe one needs more than just medication. Docs are so quick to give out meds to anyone having difficulty. People need to work through their issues in some type of therapy, not just meds. I know more people who are on meds for depression and they still say they are very depressed. I have never been on meds, and believe me, I have dealt with very traumatic situations. For me, intense therapy worked without meds. I thinks meds do help some people, who really need them, but I think they should be combined with therapy. Just my opinion.

TweetSome people say depression is strictly a chemical imbalance in the brain. I believe it is not always that. Depression can be situational and how we choose to define those situations in our mind. We create our own prisons of the mind. We can fall into habitual patterns of thinking which keep us stuck in depression. The way we think affects our brain chemistry. In many cases, depression is a choice and we are doing it unconsciously much of the time. Once the patterns are habituated, then it is hard to stop. Then we fall into self destructive behavior to validate our inner thoughts. It seems that the more external chemicals(alcohol, drugs, etc) we put into our bodies, the more depressed we become. I knew a guy who committed suicide by shootin himself and he was wasted on vodka 24/7 and I am certain he would still be alive if not for the vodka
They call you paranoid until the worst happens, and in the aftermath they will call you a hero.
TweetAction. As baby1 said. Working through it. Action is a solution. When the heat is on. When things are loaded on your plate, and it just seems too much to handle. Get to it. It's depressing, and difficult to know where or even how to begin, but working through things helps. I believe, very much, that our hardships are one of the main reasons we're here. We learn from the tough times. We don't really grow, as a person, during the good times.
Dzone, you mentioned alcohol. I have someone that's close to me that is, without a doubt, killing himself with alcohol. He is intensionally doing this. It's amazing he's still alive. What's bad, is he really shouldn't be so down. Everything he owns is paid for. He's retired. He didn't go through life like most of us though. He was forced to take charge before he got out of high-school. He drank, allot, from 18 until 42yrs old when he 1st went into ICU. They told him 1 drink could kill him. He was dry for 2yrs. Then he picked it back up. He loves his nieces and nephews. He would probably be fine if he had a family, but he was too busy drunk throughout those years. He's just now 50. You would think he was pushing 80yrs old. When I would tell friends how old he was, when he was in his 40s, people would never believe it. Out of all the things he's done, alcohol has just ate his insides up. He was just in ICU last week, again. He jokes that he wants to donate his liver to the University of FL for them to study because it's in perfect shape.lol...but, no laughing matter really. You can tell that doctors are tired of seeing him. And he is too. But sadly. He won't stop. And it's like he's having to live in his own hell. He can't stand his own house anymore. It's bad.
I used to visit him all the time, but I can't anymore. He's almost lost his mind, and it's just a disgrace. It is sad. damn...
Tweetmajor serious shyte, major
some action needs to be taken, imho, the problem with it is it can go really bad really quickly, like from okay to suicide in 2-3 months, on the outside that is, usually there's been up and down struggles for awhile, some folks can mask major deprssion for a few years just threw up and downs and bio rhythms of life
Tweeti've been suffering from very bad depression all my life but the last 2 years it has been the worst. i do think mine is a chemical imbalance but i don't feel like commiting suicide. however, i usually don't have the urge to live. i just sleep my life away and it's sad but after getting laid off last year it's like i've given up.
depression is a scary and misunderstood problem by most people. even i misuderstood it until i admitted i have it. now i'm learning about it and trying to get better. it's hard to undo a lifetime of a way of thinking though.
Tweetr u on meds, ctrl
the right meds do do wonders, plus some type of support group, very similar to AA groups, u gotta hang with those who know the ups and downs of the drill
Tweetno, i got laid off 18 months ago and haven't found real work yet so without insurance i'm just getting by. i'm looking into a couple drugs but not sure of prices yet. i know i need something!!!
