      VENTING...
you know....the computer has done numberous, fantastic and wonderful things for us! help us schedual our day better. complete complicated equations faster. look at porn for free!!! but when it comes to getting a job, NOTHING has fuked up the hiring process more!!! abso-frickin-lutely nothing!!! it used to be an ad was ran, most the time, in the sunday paper. you picked up the paper, went to the table and read the possible jobs available. these jobs would be in little boxes...anywhere from, about, 2x2inch to a 2x4inch box. you'd read these boxes, and highlight the ones you were intrested in. then, you'd CALL the folks listed in the ad to contact. you'd spend a couple minutes on the phone trying to build a slim relationship. some small piece of common ground so you can get your foot in the door. the guy (or gal) on the other end says "why dont you come in tomarrow at 2pm" BAM!! you have an interview!!! AN INTERVIEW!!!! WITH A REAL LIVE PERSON!!! your opportunity to talk to someone about said job and convince them that you are the best man (or women) for the job!!! now days, you send an email and attach a resume....never knowing if the resume made it becouse the fuker recieving it dosent bother to contact you!! you have no clue if the jobs still available or not?? there was no phone number to call...no persons name to ask for, becouse they dont want you to fukin call!! its like the whole state is having a resume collecting contest!! i know some assholes that have resumes sent just to see if they can find someone better then what they have!!! WTF IS THAT??? you dont really have a job avail. you just want to see who applys?? you, sir, need an azzwhoopin!!! yea....this computer/job thing is fuked up!! i've lost count how many resumes me and the wife has sent in....never to recieve a conformation that it was recieved...no phone call that the job has been filled...nothing. the computer has really fuked up the job hunting thing

Bro, you know that I've been looking for work as well and I completely agree with you. You fill these apps out online and send in your resume, but who the hell knows if anybody even sees them? My girlfriend does the hiring at her place and she's also told me about people she knows that hires at other jobs and she said that they are much more likely to hire somebody that comes in with an app in person than one who fills one out online.

it can be absolutely frustrating. as you note, the worst part is "not knowing"! "Not knowing" whether they received your app, whether your being considered to be contacted, whether the job is still open... Nothing....For piece of mind just give me some info.

I know how you feel. There is a better paying job I applied for online and sent my resume in. Since I meet the qualifications, I have to go next week to take a pre-employment test. After that they will call for an interview. Hopefully it's not a bunch of wasted time. At least I'll find out at the testing session how many people I'm up against.

another prob is you cant even go in. much of the time, when its at a larger company, they dont tell you who your applying to!! what dept! what area...just a general discription of the job needing done....my wife has put in apps at a few local hospitals. she's going to school for hospital admin, but she'll wash toilets, she dont care. she put in her resume and fill out an online app. we stopped at one of the hospitals nearby and they didnt even know what dept put in the ad!!! its so fukin frustrating!!!

I know how you feel Dave. And that scenario is the least frustrating one. How about all those companies that want you to cut-and-paste all the information in your resume into the little individual fields on their own customized resume "builder" or whatever they call it. Basically re-type your resume, and then you have to answer page after page of questionairre . . . try doing that every time you want to apply for a job. It gets old fast. And you're right about all the jobs that may or may not be available. I'm talking to a couple people that may want to hire me in the future (whenever that is) if/when this project comes on-line. But nobody knows if/when that might happen. I keep hearing "check back with me after our big meeting on ___ afternoon," and then "we didn't actually finish the meeting because it ran over and we all had other things to attend to," and "I really hope we can have this decision wrapped up in the next 10 days - hang in there," and "its been really hard for my partner and I to find a time when we are both available to talk about all of this..." They keep hinting that there will be an opportunity, but nothing ever really happens - I've seen it so many times. And then there's the ones you mentioned that will ask you to come in and then tell you that they don't really have anything now, but want to have candidates lined up when things turn around for them. Ha! I'm glad I arranged for my kid to stay in the after school program and had my suit dry cleaned for that. In other news, I was rejected for 2 call center positions today as well - I was sure I would at least get an interview for that. Even call centers have the luxury of selecting from a group of job seekers with several years of experience doing that exact job. I'm either eliminated by being over qualified for a low-level job in my own profession , or by some kid who has experience as a customer service rep from his summer job. I get it, but it is an insane world right now. Something's gotta give.

before I started at the airlines 14 years ago I always walked into a company to fill out a application I never applied for anything online back in the day. Plus if I didnt hear anything back I would always go into the company instead of calling them. I would never call them and say has the job been filled always go in person.Dave the hospitals should have a human resource dept mabey its different then chicago. But dave I think you should really think about moving dude. Ive toid you in the past that the ford dealerships by my house are booming and if you say you have all that experience I see no problem you working at these here. Just think where you live it sucks and no jobs preety much everywhere, but the car business by me anyway is booming man and even in chicago with all those car dealerships there doing very well. I say start taking rode trips and go to the dealerships and see what happens.

As you started out with Dave, the computer (internet) has provided so many advancements. However, with every advancement, there is a price.

We are becoming a "faceless" society that is driven by impersonal communications which lack any of the sences.

Pretty sad when you think about it
