i don't really see how this could be the truth. the body was designed to walk around without shoes on all the time. If people strengthened there feet by not wearing shoes so often they woudl actually have much less foot pain and overall body pain. It's society pushing orthodics and arch support and blah blah blah on people making there feet work less and less and causing weaker and weaker feet.

Walking in flip flops is not the same as walking barefoot.
Flip flops make my hips really hurt.

"Flip-flops might feel good because they keep your feet cool. At issue, though, is their utter lack of foot support.

      Walk this way
The Auburn team videotaped 39 flip-flop-wearing volunteers and noticed how they scrunched their toes to keep the flip-flip on the foot while the heel lifted in the air. This motion stretches the plantar fascia, the connective tissue that runs from heel to toe, causing inflammation, pain along the sole, heel spurs and tired feet in general.
These symptoms were actually what flip-flop wearers at Auburn University had reported upon returning to classes in the fall. An entire summer of flip-flop wearing had taken its toll.
The researchers also found that the volunteers altered their gait , taking shorter strides and turning their ankles inward, likely to keep the flip-flop from falling off. This, the researchers worry, can cause long-term ankle and hip problems.
Sandals with heel straps are the healthier choice because your foot doesn't need to clench to keep the footwear secure. These kinds of shoes offer better arch and heel support, too. "

The toe scrunch is exactly why most flip-flops are a pain in the ass to me.
But, I bet none of those researched were wearing Sperry flip-flops. You don't have to do that with Sperry. They gotcha covered every which-a-way, but you still have to monitor them. Flip-flips are...dangley flip-flops.
I love my Nike Air Max.

I wonder if those Sketchers that suppossedly "shape the legs and buns" really work. Or is that just another gimick?
My wife was looking at them.

flip flops are so bad for the feet, look it up. A foot is supposed to have a arch to support it flip flops dont there just a straight flat shoe which puts extreme pressure on the spinal cord and lower back. This is no myth this is a fact,Podiatrists say people who have flat feet or other foot issues should wear a more structured shoe. That's because walking in flip-flops can be tough on the structure of the foot.
Auburn University (AU) researchers have found that wearing thong-style flip-flops can result in sore feet, ankles and legs. The research team, led by biomechanics doctoral student Justin Shroyer, presented its findings at the recent annual meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine in Indianapolis.

“We found that when people walk in flip-flops, they alter their gait, which can result in problems and pain from the foot up into the hips and lower back,” Shroyer said. “Variations like this at the foot can result in changes up the kinetic chain, which in this case can extend upward in the wearer’s body

i've been wearing "thong style" (sounds so gay lol) flip flops for years (in the summer anyway) and haven't had a problem with my feet.

btw, i don't have funky hammer toes, so i don't mind if people look at my fantastic feet.

I can agree with that 110%. When I do wear my flip flops, I notice that I do have to scrunch my toes a little to make sure they don't fall off. So yes, I do alter my "gait" when I walk in flip flops.
This one time while visiting Thailand, I met this girl who gave me gait. Probably not the same thing though.
