I don't care is people light up in the privecy of their own homes, cars, or if there is a smoking friendly what ever. I just don't want to be subjected to it at any level.

The south park guys typically share my view, lmao. I have never been into tobacco...yet I used to like it when I had gf's who smoked. Something about that trampy bar smell & taste, mmm mmmmm - maybe that only applied to my college years. Thankfully the issue of smoking does not effect my life/lifestyle one bit today

It is not right for the government to tell a private business owner that he or she cannot allow people to smoke in their establishment. This is just one more area of proof that people are growing more and more fond of the government dictating every aspect of our lives. It is nothing more than the face of collectivism. If somebody doesn't want to smell smoke then go to a place where people don't smoke. I never have understood why people are so arrogant that they believe a private business is a public business. It is not! If a person owns there own business, owns the land, the building, pays the taxes, etc, then they should have every right to allow people to smoke or to not allow them to. I guess we might as well get used to it though because people like the nanny state, which will eventually eat up all of our liberties. What's next? No salt? No fatty foods?

You sure get hostile in your discussions. I support freedom, not the lack thereof and I sure as heck don't support throwing people in jail for smoking. Last time I checked it is perfectly legal to smoke in front of a store outside in the parking lot or whatever. Is there a law in your state that doesn't allow smoking outside? I guess perhaps it could be like the CA smoking ban that says a certain distance from the bar, and if you live in NJ then that is not hard to believe by any means. If that's the law then perhaps they were breaking it. Call the cops then if it bothers you that much. I'm sure they would love nothing more than to come down there and arrest someone for smoking than to be out busting real criminals. You sound like the type who supports government intervention. In that case, you should be more than happy with the direction of our country because it is on the track of a nanny state in which laws are enacted for every aspect of our behavior.

Sorry to hear about your mother. I haven't had that experience and my grandfather does not smoke and has been sitting in the same house with my chain smoking grandmother for decades. He's healthy as can be at 83. At any rate, I don't smoke but I sure as heck will stick up for their right to do so.

Get real, dude. What are ya gonna do next, call me a commie? I don't support "Big Brother." All I'm asking for is the practice of respect. I respect the fact if a person wants to smoke at home, in a car, at a cigar bar, in an establishment that allows smoking, etc. But puffing away in front of an enterence to a business that people are going to be going into on a regular basis is just plain rude. And smoking in a place that clearly states the rule NO SMOKING, and such a place as to where I have to work is just wrong as well. Use your head, it ain't that hard to do. But what do I know? I'm just a vet who has marched against Big Brother for numberous causes, from laws pertaining to muscle cars to anti-Obama stuff. But I guess I should fire up a 3day a pack habbit so I can be considered a "real American," right? Yeah, that's freedom!

you fight for laws pertaining to muscle cars....you condone a smog making machine driving down the road, belowing out tons of carbon monoxide, but you b i t ch about a ciggarete??unreal...if my memory serves right most muscle cars have dual 2/12" exhaust pouring ot rotten smoke, and a cigg is maybe an 1/8" pouring out rotten smoke....go in your garage start your car and light up a ciggarette close the door and see which one kills you first the exhaust or second hand smoke...oh yeah, but you are one that believes laws should only protect YOUR interests, not those of others

That's the mentality that's gotten us to the state we are today. Mr RW's stance on things. The, "my way is right, so force laws upon those that oppose my way."...2nd hand smoke...yyyeah...I guess the great annual celebration of our Independance is hell to you too, huh? with all those fireworks and smoke...so long as you don't participate, or stay downwind you're alright though. Heaven help ya if some kid fires up a sparkler though.
I swear...all this freedom is just wrong. I agree with ya. They should lock those f"ers up for a good little stint. Long enough to teach 'em about lighting-up outside. Where in the hell they got the idea that they have the liberty to light-up outside, idk!

And I thought I had problems. Your gripe humbles me.

I am kinda with RW on this one. I don't hvae a problem with your right to smoke. I have a problem with you smoking around me. I don't smoke nor do i wanna smell like smoke from others smoking around me. Also the go somewhere where people don't smoke is complete crap. everywhere you go there is someone who wants to smoke. It's do to laws that they are not smoking. An example is i had to use a laundry mat for a while here, one day while trying to make my cloths clean and smell nice to old dirty *****es were smoking like ti was there last day alive. I didn't just wash my cloths so they could smell like your dirty smokes.

Your interpretation of freedom is different than mine, and obviously the founders of this great country too. You say you don't support Big Brother yet you support smoking bans, thus let's assume you support big brother's smaller brother. Obviously you believe you have a right to a smoke free environment in a private establishment because there is a law that says so. That may well be, however, the establishment is private and should have never had a law enforced against it in the first place. Property rights should protect us from government laws and regulations that have no grounds and are unconstitutional. I should have every right to own a bar, or a doughnut shot for that matter and permit people to smoke in it. If I don't want the non-smokers business then that should be my decision, not the government. What is the difference in a private house and a private business. It is not a PUBLIC business. Thus why do citizens feel they should have the right to call for such laws.

So I ask you, how can you NOT be in support of "big brother" as you stated sarcastically? You are supporting the government enforce unconstitutional laws and regulations on private businesses.

This is where is gets really complicated when discussing liberty. Too many people like yourself support certain laws that make you comfortable while making others comfortable. Yet, you claim that smoking harms your health and should therefore be banned in public. Well, with that stance we should ban cars and trucks from driving. I can only imagine what type of harmful effect a tractor trailer parked at the doughnut shop could have on your lungs, while unloading those healthy doughnuts you like so much (pun intended).

Right on horsepwr. This is why I am really concerned about the future of our country. Collectivists are all over our country and half the time they don't even know it.

I know it brother. My dad has told me, for years and years now, to stop even attempting to understand some folks. I'm trying to let things just go "in 1 & out the other", but it's difficult to do sometimes. Some folk's thought process is just...
I never said I'm right. But I know I have the right. or damn well should, to light-up anywhere I want in the open air. My ethical mindset keeps me always calculating so that I don't get someone downwind with that nasty smoke, but some folks make me wanna rethink my smoking manners. Cause if a whiff of a nasty smoke can ruin someone's day. Then maybe through that small instance, along with the unimaginable other things that set them off, they might learn to shrug such petty things off than blow a fuse 1st thing in the morning.

Quick story about an older, (late 80s-early 90s), fox chassis Mustang. I was riding my bike a couple weeks ago. Which has the exhaust "opened-up" from that restrictive stuff they put on them now-days. But there was a Mustang in front of me with the same done to his exhaust. I love to hear a Stang engine so loud and clear...beautiful tones, they do play from the tailpipes once opened-up. One thing my lungs got a full dose of is that carbon-monoxide from the muscle car. You don't have to be on a bike to smell a Stang, Camaro, or Vette that's had exhaust work. You can smell it through your A/C if you have it set to pull outside air than recirculate. But on the bike, it was strong. But, RW, I'm a muscle car fan myself, and I really love that distinct aroma that Mustangs put off when you throttle one on down. But, I don't care for the smell of a Z28. Yes, I can tell the difference. Just imagine (bike vs car) smell. They all have a distinct scent. But just because I don't enjoy the smell of the Camaro. I don't think the guy with Camaro exhaust work should be locked-up.
Freedom. Liberty. Then you have regulation, which is what you've preached in this thread. Freedom...Regulation...1 will thrive over the other. No happy ending together. Not in harmony as you've been led to believe. Regulation will kill your wonderful freedom. It has in many states as far as your muscle cars go. No catalytics? No go. GA is one. "high flow cats"?lol..yeah, thanks "Mr. Regulation and Rule/Law. Nothing compares to a full exhaust.

I smoke, chew, and sometimes use snuff. If I'm outside I'll light up when and where I want. Go ahead and tell me not to.....
