Yea I like to do them first before squats to wear my muscles out before I do squats. My knees aren't what they used to be and doing heavy squats first kills them.
I won't do regular squats anymore. It's been years since I've done 'em. That exercise takes a toll on my knees, back and base of neck. I can do hacksquats and leg-presses without a problem though. Front squats are no problem either, but I like the hip-sled and hacksquats.
