TweetSame here. Carpets only in the closets and my home office. Hardwoods are def. the way to go for the highest re-sale value, but if you have a big dog they will scratch very fast with the claws and you will end up having to refinish them in no time.

Pergo or any type of laminate is great for almost any application and very easy to install yourself.

Tweeti installed woodfloors (bruce flooring), in the livingroom/foyer/main hallway, the year we baught the house (02). we got carpet in the bedrooms only. with the winters it worksout better that way imo.

TweetBeing in the flooring industry half my life, I prefer tile. You can get a really nice porcelain tile that looks exactly like hardwood, comes in planks and all, but it wont scratch like hardwood. And it will last forever. You butt the joints so there is minimal grout. Being that you are in a colder area, I would def recommend but a floor heating system underneath it. They have some great systems out there with thermostats you can control and such. One that we sold was a radiant heating system so it saved on your heating bills.

TweetWell, interesting that this subject should get posted up!! I am in the middle of some major remodeling and updating in my house. Tiling being one of the big things!! LOL I live in the desert with dust, I have 3 dogs and I tell you carpeting just flat out suks!! Just not good at all where I live and with pets! I have laid travertine in a few rooms one being my master bath in which got totally remodeled and which I am still finishing up. I have put down some slate in a few places, and in my family room I am laying some 21x21" stone tile. Which I am getting prepped to do here soon, after I finish painting, which is where I am now.
But I agree carpet is way to high maintenance especially in high traffic and wet areas!!

Now I am researching stacked stone veneer, I'd like to use it my my bar and in my kitchen.

TweetWE have a ll carpet, but I much prefer hardwood floors or tiles. I just feel that the house is much cleaner than with carpet. Everything just gets into the carpet.

I agree with this statement. We have cherry hardwood in our dining room and we have a boxer. The hardwood floor looks terrible with all of the scratches. I would at the very least get a really light colored wood but I would really consider other options than wood IMO. The tile that looks like hardwood may be a good option. Not to mention that it is easy to do yourself

TweetBeing in the concrete industry, I searched all over the city for a building to renovate. Built in 1948 I knew we would have a river pebble concrete floor on the ground level of this 2 story brick building on Main Street. I ground off the asphaltic adhesive used to attach the old linoleum tiles and then just increased the abrasives to remove a thin layer of the concrete. Sure enough...River pebble. Then a 7 step series of abrasives at ever higher grit diamonds got us to the point where it looks like a polished marble, or Terrazzo floor system.
Polished concrete is easily maintained and won't stain as other floors can. Its great for allergies too.

I have polished concrete in my office, and its gorgeous!!

I put river rock pebbles in my new master shower and on the drying deck and throughout the bath run, I love it!! I think it just adds a unique flare to what I have designed in there!! Everything is natural, stone, rock, copper, & marble, almost a "Green" type bath if you would! LOL

Polished is a unique product. If you go from the start you have a lot of creative input. We've seeded coil spring and large scale brass metal turnings, even keys and doorknobs!!
