Ya know i mentioned my daog having sort-of-a hip issue lately, a while back. Well, I woke up this morning to places to clean up where she'd been sick, It was a real watery cinsistancy. She even pottied by my computer desk which is a never hapen with her type thing, but i got it cleaned up. She was sick all day, as in just layed in my bathroom. never evn went outside or wanted to. She'd just lay there and cut those eyes at me so sad when I'd check on her.

Well, later this afternoon, she got up and got some water and walked around the living room, then settled at the end of the couch where she could see me on the computer. She started this light, high-pitched crying. I went over and layed down by her, and paetted her head and rubbed her eyes, and she actually stopped crying and just looked dazed, like she was looking through me. eyes half open... I knew then that things weren't good for her today, and that this limping problem was posiibly a tumor or something. i know, damn me for not getting her to a vet sooner. Please don't get down on me, I do a good enough job myself.

So, just about 9pm, she lays down at the bottom of the tv. She was really starting to cry and pant. My daughter saw this and started to get upset, so thankfully, my wife got her to her bedroom and got her into some cartoons. She, my daughter didn't want to see Gracie doing that anyway. Again, I laid down beside her. Her tongue was hanging out. She was barely hanging on. Her feet were cold. She was ready to go. I talked to her as best I could. She would have these painful flare-ups that would tense her body up and make her really cry loud. Man, it was rough. I finally got some meds to help ease her, but she wouldn't eat or take anything. She just clamped down on my fingers. But I rang her tongue with it while her mouth was lieing open. Then I got a glass of water, picked her snout up vertically, and poured a little water in. It washed down the med and she actually got a little more alert, for only like a few seconds, then her eyes got that lost look again. But this time, her body may have contorted 2 more times in under a minute, and that was it. I watched my Gracie girl her make her exit.

She was a mid-size dog, right about 55lbs. She was very special to me, and special period. She had to have special care. Her first 7-8wks were in the wild, so that alone made for a unique personality. I've never been asked what Kind of dog that is, so many times, because she was absolutely beautiful. special she was. She meant no harm, but she could mean business.

It's late. I proabaly have typos galore. I'm tired. I just wanted to share my special girl Gracie's life and passing with y'all. She no longer is in pain, and if ou only knew the impressions I got to witnes from her. I got to watch her mature in a great way. And I know that cetain people that couldn't see passedthe "wild" in her, finally got to see the gentle, sweet Gracie. Which all she's ever been was scared, so she went into defence mode.

I gotta turn in. Hopefully I can find a decent pic to post tomorrow.

Thats the tough part of maving pets, esp. dogs. You love them so much and they never judge you. Most dogs you can kick in the head and they still come up and lick you.
It's gonna be a tough time when my little Betty Boop goes. She's my Min Pin. Sleep with me the whole bit.

My dad had a huge Rottie. Solid 135lbs. It didn't take long before he past me and my brother in the will. My dad wouldn't shut up with the "Moose" stories over and over. When he got 7-8 years old, my dad wouldn't leave him cuz he was afraid the old dog croak. Moose lived almost 14 years.
We always joked about who was the unlucky soul to be off the day that Moose died.Well, my phone rang on the way home from work one morning. Damn. I with my mom took Moose to the vet. My dad doesn't cry much but as we pulled away that morning he was tore up.
Moose couldn't go inside the office. The only time he ever got aggressive was inside but out in the truck he was always calm.As we waited for the vet to come out he laid there calm and patiently as I comforted him. He knew it was his time to go and it would all be over soon. I could see it in his eyes like he was letting me know it was ok. I'll never forget it.

That was 8 years ago and I'm crying as I type.

Sorry to hear about Gracie my friend.

I feel your pain as I've had one of my pups do something similar and couldn't breath while I was holding him. I gave him mouth-to-mouth and brought him back just to put him down the next day.

She's out of pain now and she was loved by a great and loving daddy.

Find peace in that and if there's anything you want to talk about just shout.

man, thanks for the stoyrs and helpful words. It's just not right around here this mroning. I knew it wouldn't take long for Cpt Morgan, the terrier, to really start feeling it. He's looking for her. He was right there with us last night. Just us 3. He started cleaning her eyes like he does, and i had to get him to back up. Then he just sat back and watched very seriously. He's a dignified little joker. He just looks business. the expressions. But, I knew...She was the only dog he's "let in", and really liked. They had a great friendship. That's one thing that's been bugginf him the last couple months, is why Gracie wouldn't play anymore. They played rough all the time, and once she started favoring that leg, no more for her. She'd let him know to back off with teeth showing and all. He didn't understand it, of course. Now I'm worried about him grieving.

My daughter actually took it okay. I couldn't keep her in bed. She had to get up and check on her Gracie girl. She loved Gracie. Not so much Morgy, or at least shoe doesn't show it. She'd a little mean to the Morgster. We, mommy and I, used it as a lesson to love while things are living because you never know how sudden it can end. lesson bing to be nice to Morgy. i think she got it. Which she is nicer to him than she was a year or so ago.

I really thought my wife would take the day off. I'm surprised to see she went in. I guess I'm gonna get ready and run Gracie's shell up to the family farmland up around the state line. I haven't been there in years.. well, what's left of it, which is mine. A whole...just shy of a hundred acres...mm.mm.mm...It was 1200 when I was growing up. 2 lakes, a fresh, spring fed creek, with limestone bottom. Anyway, take some toys with me to see how good of an eye i might possibly still have...doubt it. Not this shaky bastard.

But anyway, you guys and gals are amazing. Thanks for the kind gestures.

^yep. I was afraid of getting another dog. I swore id not do it again because of how hard I grieved over bruno and brando. I even drank hard after that. Well, I got this new pup from the shelter and Im glad I did. I realize that having a dog die is inevitable and I guess we have to accept it as a part of the life process. My new dog is named Bruno also. If I didnt have him, I would miss out on seeing people fall in love with him over and over. Id be missin out on him jumpin all over the place as soon as the sun comes up. Id be missin out on running with him at the dog park. Yes, its worth it.

we wish the best for you and your family, HP

I was a bit slow in getting another dog - we had 3.
One was a Min-Pin who was over 18 when I put him down (the one I gave the mouth-to-snoot) to.
He was my wifes dog befor we met and her and her ex rescued a terrier mix and those two pups were together for about 15 years.
Well I got a Great Dane puppy while the other two were still alive and she loved the Min-Pin. But he was more of the Old-Man at that time and he just wanted to be left alone.
Once he had passed the two girls got along but not like best buddies - or so it seemed.

The little terrier had to be put down because her back legs went out - lost the nerves along the spinal cord and she couldn't walk well only using her front and couldn't potty properly.

Once she was gone I realized how much my little Dane missed her.
It took a while because after having three dogs in the house it was kind of peaceful having only one but she seemed like something was missing. We went home as much as we wanted to be and sometimes - - let's face it, we just don't want to play everytime she does.
As it turns out we got a call from a friend who was working at the county shelter and they had a big beautiful male Dane who was brought in.

I brought him home and those two are like boyfriend and girlfriend - - when she wants it!!! Ain't that typical!!
Ands if we don't feel like playing with the pups - - well they have each other and the bond in a way we can't - cause I'll be damned if she's gonna bite on my leg like she does his!!! LOL!

All I'm saying is - You'll know when the time is right to get another pup.
If it happens fast Great! If it takes a little longer that's OK too.

Do what's right for you and the family - including little Morgy!
