TweetSome companies cater to the flashy/show croud, so I imagine they do get kinda pricy. I've never had anything but Vortex. Vortex is a company that caters striclty to racing. Vortex has some nice write up on how their slider puck is "engineered" of a composite that's proven to slide better with less friction and/or ashpalt catch/grab. You can grab a set of Vortex mounting kits & pucks for like $60. and a 60 dollar bill spent very well bro. I have a skint left puck right now that saved me...who knows how much $. But sliders will save some really hurt feelings for not much $. I ride better with them too, because they give me that piece of mind. Ya don't worry as much, know what I mean?

As for the rails. Those are for stunting. They really stiffen up the frame, and keep the bike together longer than just a set of sliders.

Tweet...oh, and really bro. as for making them. I'm not saying you can't fabricate a set up by any means, but there's a certain amount of torque that frame can stand at points like those mounts, and when you see the mounting kit you'll know what I mean. I don't know though. If you've got the equipment, and have a set in hand to duplicate for your bike (because they're individual per bike of course). But I just don't see the time and effort worth $60. Think about how much your worth an hour, and how long it'll take to get them perfect. If you purchase a set, it's 20min. give or take, to put them on.(and that's if you have to cut some plastic.)

Given the choice of the 2 - slider or rails , money not being an issue what would you prefer or recommend?

TweetThere is one name in frame sliders as far as im concerned and it's motovation. there stuff is all i will use it looks fantastic they do tons of rand d on it their service is great and super fast. They aren't the cheapest but their stuff is nice and works. Another great brand is woodcraft but these are shorter and won't really save your plastics at all they are purely FRAME sliders.

Tweetalso don't get rails they are no good for riding they are meant more for withstanding drops and such not slides.

+1 on the rails over sliders, as james said. rails are for hard slams on the ground to stiffen up the frame as for even more protection to withstand the abuse of the daily stunter, practice slam after practice slam. So if you're not planning on stunting that bigole brand new ZX14, frame-sliders are a must. And ASAP.

As for brands, to each his own I guess. There is only one name in certain areas of performance, and Vortex has several areas of racing applications on lockdown. Framesliders on the other hand aren't exactly a racing component, but I don't want junk, I don't want bling or even offset/no-cut sliders. I have my reasons. I like a no-nonsense frame-slider. I've always used Vortex (since there was Vortex and...that other brand) and been extremely satisfied with their protection and durability. And believe me. I've put 'em to the test. They produce a product to serve a purpose and that it does. And, you can buy the puck seperately for when, heaven forbid, you lay it down.
I can't speak for any other brands because I haven't owned them, but as far as ease of installation, fit, and they even offer a selection of colored pucks, I like my Vortex.

oh, and the shorty pucks are for track bikes. They don't do much for the plastics. strictly for the frame as james stated above.

I'm not sure - all of the sliders I've seen mention "NO CUT" and they all seem to have an off-set mounting plate.
Some of them have a single mounting hole for the frame or block and one for the slider peg. THis is a sure way to break the whatever it bolts to be adding even more leverage plus the impact load.
Thats the reason I would go with a dual mount/off-set bracket similar to the ones shown in the link.
I think there are some that are direct bolt without the offset Muzzy I think has one and it's about 100 or more.

I can very, very easily make the off-set dual mount bracket in the CNC and have the peg turned on the lathe as well as the delrin if needed.

If I can find one that doesn't require cutting or the 50-70$ range I'll but if not then I'll make it myself, plus I can use pretty stuff like stainless steel to match the silver bike if i want at no cost.
I don't care about the small amount of extra weight. I'm not racing so the added pound wouldn't matter any.

I'm about to make a custom plate bracket when I start to tinker with the thing.
