TweetTHAT SUCKS
TweetJust thought I'd give everyone a heads up on a virus we came across on Sunday. Everlast was on his computer and he's virus protection comes up with a message saying that his computer has a bunch of virus, 700 worms, a # of Trojans, etc. It showed a lot of problems, so I take a look at it and I'm thinking holy sh!t! this is going to take forever to clean his computer which is brand new. He hasn't even had it a month. I'm swamped as usual trying to get some work finish and I still had his payable and payroll to do. I click on it to start cleaning up his computer. It then gives me a message saying I need to renew his virus subscription. I figured it was probably a 30 day subscription, so I click on ok. It opens the internet to a window and I enter my CC#. I'm giving a registration key... that's when it realized something was wrong. It wouldn't give me an option to enter the key#. I go back to the website. There is no home page. Nothing further other than the one page for to purchase and the registration key #. That's when it hit me... I've been SCAMMED!!!
I'm so pissed at this point, because I'm so careful about this kind of stuff. I always check this stuff out first. My mind is pretty much mush and I can hardly keep up with sh!t as is. I call my credit card company and sure enough. It's a virus called AVG 360. They are playing on AVG's antivirus software and Norton's 360. They are stealing credit card #'s, so I had to cancel my card. Then go to Norton's and remove the virus. It turns out there wasn't but one virus on his computer and no Trojans or worms.
The IT guys at work told me there is another one that is much worse called AVG 2009, and it will take over your computer. There is no way at this time to clean it up other than reformatting your hard drive.
Be sure and check your anti-virus software if it comes up with an alert and make sure it's really your software and not something else. Don't order any virus software over the internet unless you go directly to their website or buy one from the store.

TweetWe seem to be on a roll. Everlast picked me up from the airport a couple of weeks ago and it was late, so we decided to grab a bite to eat. His wallet was stolen at the restaurant. He doesn't have any credit cards, but he did have both our business and personal account numbers written down in his wallet. We were afraid that someone would try to access our accounts, so we had to close out both of them and get all new checks, change automatic pays, etc. It's been a pain in the butt.
TweetYes, I got that antivirus2009 and ended up trashing my computer and bought a new one. It was bad.
TweetWow, thanks for the warning dixie. I use AVG on my computer, IMO a damn good program, and certainly (last I checked) the best free antivirus software on the net. (No, I don't work for them, LOL.) I'll have to keep my eye out for this one.
Tweetthats an old virus, but still making its rounds
